On this coaching episode of A Glimpse Inside, host Wendy Perrotti helps Janice understand how being grateful for the life she has doesn’t mean that she can’t want more. Join in and learn how listening to your inner voice and growing into the best version of yourself is never something to feel guilty about. In fact, the version of “more” that you are truly called to is in full alignment with gratitude.
Welcome to A Glimpse Inside. I’m Wendy Perrotti. You’re listening to episode two of our four part series on Living Your Best Life Now. In episode one of this series, you met my friend, Dana Hilmer, who co-founded Camp Reinvention with me. Over our collective decades of coaching people through reinventing and really through learning how to live their best lives, one thing is crystal, crystal clear, there really is only now. So whatever your circumstances are, whatever your starting point, whether this thing that you feel drawn to is enormous and literally life changing, or whether it’s just a smaller shift or yearning, it doesn’t really matter. The only way to fill in those gaps is to accept that they’re real and to shift right now, right in this minute.
And it does not, and I’m going to repeat this, it does not mean no matter how big you want your change to be, but you have to turn your life upside down. You can start simply. Believe me when I tell you, it is those small shifts that build into something big, it’s those small shifts that build into growth. And my guest today is someone who loves her life and she’s ready for a shift. But before we hear from Janice, I just want to give you all that quick reminder of how we roll here on A Glimpse Inside‘s coaching episodes.
Remember, this is no advice, no judgment, we’re not here to fix Janice, or you, or me, it’s really about creating a space where we can examine that stuff in our heads that we don’t admit out loud, even to ourselves. Fears that fly in and out that are not fully defined, all of those stories that we tell ourselves, the things that we believe about what’s good, or bad, or possible, or impossible, that’s what we’re dealing with. We’re dealing with untangling here. You’re perfectly fine where you are, and if you want more, we’ll untangle your way forward.
So unlike change, which is constant, we change and we change back all the time in our lives, growth sticks. And this is about your growth. And growth, my friends, only happens in one direction, nothing in nature ungrows and neither will you. Welcome, Janice.
Thank you, Wendy. It’s so good to be here.
I’m so happy that you’re here.
I know, me too.
How are you feeling about that? Are you nervous?
Actually, after listening to your intro, I feel much less nervous, and I feel just more inspired. I almost feel like I could walk away right now and be like, “Okay. Yes, let’s go, let’s do this.”
You know what? And I’m glad you said that, because our brains can take in information like that and we think, “Okay, I got it, I get it.” But we have to translate the understanding into doing. And when we’re talking about thinking stuff, it’s hard to remember that you have to do new thinking to that practice. And so, we’re going to dig into that in a little bit, but first, tell us what’s important for us to know about you.
All right. So, I am a mom of three kids, five and under. So life just in that area’s full, a mom and a wife, and I have a full time job, which I’ve been at the same company for 15 years now. Actually just celebrated my 15 year anniversary, which is really cool and fun, and love the people that I work with, and really do like my job. Throughout my career, I’ve been in lots of different roles throughout the company. And I feel like that’s something that’s reflective of my personality in a sense that I… You were talking about change. I like change, I don’t really shy away from it. And I think if I’m doing the same thing for an extended period of time, it gets a little stale for me or a little boring, and I’m always looking for, “Okay, what’s the next step? What’s the next thing?”
So I’ve been in lots of different kinds of roles and I’ve got both the people side of things, as well as the analytical side and enjoy both of them very much. And so, I’ve been at this company for so long, and I think that’s because I’ve had such different growth opportunities and different ways that I could flex my gifts, I guess, at that company. I guess the one thing for me though, is that I’ve always wanted to make a direct impact on people. And I felt this from college on, in thinking about my career and what I wanted to do. And I want to be able to help people directly. And a lot of the roles that I’ve been in don’t necessarily do that, or maybe at least not in a way that really plays to my passions.
And I feel like over time, my passions have changed, and grown, and maybe look a little different than they used to. But I feel like the one thing that stays constant is I want to help people that have gone through, or are going through similar situations to the ones that I’ve gone through. I have thought about and taking courses on, Wendy, as you know, health coaching, pregnancy and postpartum coaching, fitness specialist in that area. And I’m not sure that the pregnancy and postpartum thing is what I want to do, but I right now really feel an affinity towards helping professional moms just figure out what that life looks like for them.
And over the past few years, having young kids and stuff, it’s been really difficult to handle everything, having kids, being a professional, being a wife, being a friend, all the things that go into life, and still work towards that long-term goal that I have of also being able to focus on my passions and the things that, I think, bring great joy to me, and actually turning that into work, and being able to truly love what I’m doing when I’m working too. So I don’t know if that is-
That’s perfect. Absolutely perfect. So, we’ve got two sessions together. We’re going to speak today, and we’ve got one next week. What would you like to create or have happen? What shift would you like to get started on as a result of what we do together?
I guess, probably a few things. I think a lot of it for me… So some of it has definitely been logistical over the past few years, just trying to find the time to do all the things-
It’s a lot to juggle.
So a lot of it has definitely been logistical, but there are, for sure, some mindset things that I know that I have that I feel like I’ve done a lot of starting and stopping on this, and maybe dwelling on the less important things when it comes to trying to figure out what I want to do or how I want to do it. And I’m also the type of person who tries to solve problems before they happen. And so, sometimes I feel like when I envision what the future might look like, I just come up with all of the, what ifs, that are on the negative side rather than the, what ifs, on the positive side.
So, I really feel like some of my biggest roadblocks are just my mindset. And so, maybe getting to a place where I feel like I have permission to add another thing in, because everything else is here to stay for the time being obviously. So just permission to add something else in and figure out how to do that, and have grace in the times where maybe it’s not moving at the speed that I want it to, but not having to feel like that means that I’m failing.
We can do that. So we’re going to take a really quick break, and when we come back, we’re going to get right into doing that. And as always, I’ll give everyone out there some tips you can start using today to help with your growth and transformation, and you certainly can do the homework that we give Janice as well. Stay with us, we will be right back.
