The Secrets We Discover Through Our Brains

What are the secrets that we discover through our brains? In this episode of The Science of Superpowers, host Tonya Dawn Recla welcomes guest Friederike Fabritius to talk all about the knowledge inside of our brains. As humans, we contain so much information on a daily basis, and sometimes doubt our ability to know things. In this episode, you will learn about how to trust that internal knowledge, and how to find the key to unlock the secrets we discover through our brains.

Tonya Dawn Recla:

Hello, everyone, and welcome back to The Science of Superpowers. I’m so excited that you’re back here with us today. We are in for such a phenomenal conversation. This conversation is all about the brain. And for those of you who love the whole, how does this work? Pulling on the threads, the interconnections, the left brain, and the right brain. We’re learning that there’s so much more to us than we ever knew. The neuroscience fields are blossoming with diversity in terms of what’s possible in those spaces. Here at Super Power Experts, we are always encouraging all of the various genres, disciplines, and everywhere. We love to see innovation happening, and awareness coming through, about just how fascinating, complex, diverse, and amazing we all are.

So, today’s guest is such an amazing, brilliant light in this space. She’s a delight to speak with. You’re just in for this beautiful treat with her. I’m fumbling over my words because what’s so wonderful here is the mashup. What we have here is this ability to say, we know that we are incredibly complex individuals on many, many, many, many levels. In our space, of course, we talk about the multidimensionality of things. It’s like that’s a paradigm that starts to encapsulate just how complex we are. The drilling into all of these spaces, that’s where we feel called to contribute. So, I think it’s okay when we are able to talk about this both and we hold a really complex conversation here in our spaces, the details, the streamlining, and where you’re called to contribute is hugely important. And so, it’s allowing ourselves to both niche into where our particular expertise can be, as well as holding this joint, bigger vision.

And I believe that the intersection here with today’s guest is a beautiful depiction of that. We’re going to talk all about the secrets we discover through our brains with the author of The Brain-Friendly Workplace: Why Talented People Quit and How to Get Them to Stay. Friederike Fabritius. Please join me in welcoming her to the show. Friederike, thank you so much for joining us today.

Friederike Fabritius:

Thank you, Tonya. It’s such a pleasure.

Tonya Dawn Recla:

I’m so excited for our conversation. And you live this, right? This is your body. This is you saying to the world, look, I think we can understand these brains a little bit better. So, yes, you’re the author of the book. But of course, that’s the tip of the iceberg. What was underneath of that was the getting to that distillation, that synthesis, of what’s in the book. And so, we’re going to get to hear all that journey and what Friederike can tell us about the brain. First, we want to know what are your superpowers and how do you use them for good?

Friederike Fabritius:

My superpowers, I think I can take something that’s very complex, your brain, drill it down to being something that’s very simple and really helps people live better lives, happier lives, more fulfilled lives. So, I love bridging the gaps between science and our lives, so that it really makes our lives better.

Tonya Dawn Recla:

I love that, and we don’t often think about that in a sense. We think about the brain and I think a lot of times the brain gets a bad rap of it’s success-driven. It’s all of these things. I love that you brought that up because it reminds me, wait, wait. No, there’s more in there. There’s so much more richness in there. In a lot of the bodies of work around the mind, it does lean a little bit into the thinking aspect of it. And I appreciate that you brought it back into, yeah, and it also can inform how we feel.

Friederike Fabritius:

Right.

Tonya Dawn Recla:

So that connection is really brilliant.

Friederike Fabritius:

Yeah, and what we know from neuroscience, for example, is that our thinking is influenced by our emotions. So how you feel emotionally will influence how well you can think at this very moment. So those two things are intertwined, and our brains are much more influenced by our emotional areas than by our, let’s say, more cognitive, from an evolutionary perspective, neuro areas. So really, what brain science has shown us in the last decade is our brains are much more emotional than we used to think. It’s not this rational entity. Also, we are much more social than we used to think. So we are really connected to others through our brains. It’s not a closed community. We have neuro-neurons. We’re constantly, automatically measuring and assessing what people around us are doing. And so our brains are much richer than what people used to think. It’s not just some kind of computer that’s calculating stuff.

Tonya Dawn Recla:

Beautiful. Well, you’re certainly speaking my love language. Well, we’re going to dive all the way into this folks, because we also know the brain is impacted by the vibrational energetics of things too. So we’re going to have a really, really fun conversation when we come back from the break. Before we cut to break, Friederike, where can people go to find out more about you?

Friederike Fabritius:

Yeah. First of all, my website, friederikefabritius.com. And then, I’m also on social media. I’ve done a Google Talk. I’ve done a Ted Talk. So I think if you Google my name, you’re going to find my two books. The newest one now is The Brain-Friendly Workplace: Why Talented People Quit and How to Get Them to Stay. So, yeah, I think that’s it.

Tonya Dawn Recla:

Perfect. We’ll have a link for that on the episode page. Folks, make sure you check that out. And if you haven’t gotten registered for the next experience, go get signed up now at superpowerexperts.com, where you can feel this experience, the peace, that calm, that happiness, how the brain connects to the heart,  connects into the body, connects into the world, and how we’re all connected in that.
