AngelaMarÃa:

I invite you to enjoy this time together. So here we go. Please welcome Bracha. Bracha, I didn’t ask you how you pronounce your last name, Goetz?
Bracha Goetz:
Yes. That’s it. You got it.
AngelaMarÃa:
Bracha Goetz to my show today. We will be talking about The Soul Shines. Bracha is the Harvard-educated author of 40 books that help children, souls shine. Plus a candid memoir for adults about overcoming food addictions, joyfully. I like this. All of her books can be found on the Bracha Goetz Amazon author page that she will share with us later. So please now join me in welcoming Bracha Goetz to my show. Hello Bracha, how are you?
Bracha Goetz:
Wonderful. Really happy to be here. Thank you.
AngelaMarÃa:
Oh, me too. Thank you. Bracha, let’s just start this conversation by asking you what’s your healing superpower?
Bracha Goetz:
Oh, it’s definitely gratitude. Yes. Gratitude heals us. It just brings us joy. The moment that we’re being grateful, we’re not being miserable. Any moment that we’re being grateful. It brings joy into our life that very moment, gratitude.
AngelaMarÃa:
I love that. And I have verified that in my life, many times in my lowest, lowest, lowest experiences. The ones where you feel like nothing is working, everything is dark. The only thing I do is be grateful and write it, and repeat it, and breathe, and smile, and like magic situations and experiences start transforming. So I love that superpower, Bracha. Will you please take us back to your early years and name one memorable life lesson that is useful for you today?
Bracha Goetz:
Okay. I love to describe this. You know, I worked really hard to get into Harvard. I was searching for wisdom. So I studied hard. I got there and then I felt like, “This is the top of the world. This is a place everybody wants to be.” I was so excited to be there. And I got invited to this garden party on this beautiful day in May, with really, I would say exclusive strangers like the children of the Rockefellers, the Kennedys, the Moynihan’s. The children of very powerful people.
I was like, “This is it. This is where I want to be. This is the most exciting thing.” And so what I realized from being there is that they’re nothing special. They’re nothing different than everybody else. I mean everybody’s special, but I feel like I got to see this kind of famous people be at the top of a mountain peak that I always wanted to get to and discover that there’s really nothing much up there different than any other wonderful part of life.
So it became almost like a mirage and it freed me to realize that fame and fortune are not what I want to strive for. Once you get there and you get to see what’s at the top of that mountain, there’s nothing big deal there. And so many people spend their lives just trying to get there. It’s a waste of our energy when we could have so much more joy being grateful for wherever we are and focusing on the blessings we have right this very moment.
So, that was a turning point in my life. And also what happened is that on this beautiful day in May, the sky filled up with clouds, how it suddenly can and there was a huge thunderstorm. I had this realization, “All these powerful people, they couldn’t stop the rain from coming down on the garden party.” There’s something more, there’s something greater there’s proof of that right there, that they don’t have that power. There’s something bigger in the universe. So it was the end of the party when the thunderstorm came and that made me… It was a huge turning point in my life that day when I realized there’s something greater to strive for than that. Yeah.
AngelaMarÃa:
Thank you, Bracha. Because I think that’s also an invitation for all of us. There is something bigger. There is something better. There is something stronger. There is something more powerful behind everything. And if you just connect to that force and you just give to that force, your life, your dreams, your projects, yourself, the reward is amazing. Amazing with out a doubt.
Bracha Goetz:
Exactly. And it’s within our reach every moment.
AngelaMarÃa:
Exactly.
Bracha Goetz:
That kind of joy is within our reach every single moment. That’s what’s so amazing.
AngelaMarÃa:
It is. It is. Thank you, Bracha. So where can people go to find out more about you and that page in Amazon where people can go to buy your books?
Bracha Goetz:
Yeah. My Amazon author page has all my books and just recently my children, my youngest children, created a website, which is the Goetz Bookshop, also. So you could go there and they made a whole website about all my books and presentations and everything. So people could just go there also to find everything.
AngelaMarÃa:
Okay. But what is the Amazon page? Could you say it?
Bracha Goetz:
Oh, it’s just my name and then last name Goetz. If you just search on Amazon, it comes up right away or the Goetz Bookshop, either one.
AngelaMarÃa:
Perfect. Perfect. So we’ve been talking with Bracha Goetz about The Soul Shines. When we come back from this short break, we’re going to talk more about her healing superpower and her books. Stay tuned. We’ll be right back.
