Please help me to welcome Glenn Perry to my show today. We will be talking about how floating in quiet darkness heals. Glenn and Lee created the first commercially available floatation tanks in 1972 when I was born. Ever since they have been perfecting them with their Samadhi Tank Company and spreading the word on the benefits of floating. Floating in quiet darkness includes a selection of vivid, personal narratives and photos. Depicting the depth and breadth of experiences people encounter when floating. Floatation tanks are the ideal portal. Listen to this, to rejuvenate everyone from pro athletes and celebrities to stressed-out entrepreneurs and creative artists seeking a distraction-free environment for deep meditation, relaxation, and self-discovery.
In their new book, Floating in Quiet Darkness: How the Floatation Tank Has Changed Our Lives and Is Changing the World, floatation tank pioneers Glenn and Lee Perry explain why. And today we have Glenn Perry here with us.
So join me in welcoming Glenn Perry.
I’m so happy you’re here with us today Glenn, welcome.
Glenn Perry:
Thank you very much. I’m happy to be here.
AngelaMarÃa:
Yes. And let’s just start asking you, what’s your healing superpower?
Glenn Perry:
Our healing superpower is a floatation tank.
AngelaMarÃa:
And of course, I would like to know what a floatation tank is. So let’s just start there.
Glenn Perry:
Okay. It’s a little bit larger around than a twin-size bed, chest tie. It has 10 inches of water in it, and so much Epsom salt, hundreds of pounds of Epsom salt so that when you get in and you lie face up in the solution, it pushes you to the surface. So you float like a cork weightless, like an astronaut floating around in space. It’s enclosed. You can leave the door open, or if you want to get rid of the distractions of noise and light, you can close the door. It is skin temperature. So you’re neither cold nor hot. And so when you close the door, there’s no light, no sound, you’re weightless. So there’s no gravity and you’re completely comfortable with no distractions.
AngelaMarÃa:
For how long do you need to be there?
Glenn Perry:
I like to do it for an hour. And more recently, I’ve been doing it every day for two hours, and that is unbelievably amazing.
AngelaMarÃa:
Glenn. And we’re going to talk later about the benefits because I was reading about it. And I said, “Why didn’t I have any idea about it.” So we’re going to talk more. But before that, would you please, because we would like to know more about you and all of these that you are doing now. So please take us back to your early years and name one memorable life lesson that is useful for you today.
Glenn Perry:
I was a very insecure, neurotic, shy person when I was younger. And at 31 years of age, I was a systems computer programmer and my boss knew that I wanted to change the quality of my life. And he told me about a book by the inventor of the isolation tank, John Lilly, who also investigated dolphins and found they were more intelligent than we are. And after reading the book, I was so impressed by it that a few weeks later, when I saw an ad for a five-day workshop he was giving, I immediately signed up and went.
We had a makeshift isolation tank there. It was a precursor of a floatation tank and I was the first one to float, and I floated for an hour. I came out and the world was a scintillating, shimmering energy system. And time seemed to have changed speed. We ate lunch and afterward John asked me to share my experiences of floating. And at work, if I went to the cafeteria with two people, I would not open my mouth. I was too shy. One person, I would say something. Well, when he asked me to share my experience, I was comfortable doing that.
And I thought, “Wow. If something could make me comfortable talking to a group of people, it had to be amazingly incredible.” And right then I decided I had to build my own because nobody was making them. By the end of the week, after floating a number of more times and hearing everybody else’s experiences, I realized that other people would want one too. So I asked John what he thought about me making them for other people. And he loved the idea and gave us the name of the company and how to make them. And that totally changed the whole direction of my life. And I started focusing my life on expanding my consciousness.
AngelaMarÃa:
Glenn, this is fascinating. Where can people go to find out more about you and about this tank?
Glenn Perry:
You can go to our website, which is samadhitank.com. And there you’ll get a lot of information. And it’ll also point you to where to get the book. And that has incredible information about our 49-year history of starting this industry that now has more than 15 manufacturers making tanks and centers all over in most cities. So you can get that information there.
AngelaMarÃa:
Glenn, we’re going for a break. And I didn’t ask you this question, but I want to start a second segment asking you why Samadhi, because I know what Samadhi is. But I’m thinking now, maybe people don’t have any idea what it is. So let’s go for a break, and when we come back from this short break, we’re going to talk more about his healing superpowers. Stay tuned, we’ll be right back. Glenn Perry, floating in quiet darkness, heals.
