So, a sacred relationship is about a special other, but it’s also about friends. It’s about community. It’s about the world family, our relationship with sacred ecology. So, the big picture. And we might even discover that sacred relationship is ultimately about the divine. And I’d like to begin with a wisdom quote by Dr. Gabriel Cousens. And it goes like this, “Sacred relationship is a heroic journey into the unknown, into the risky world of love and intimacy. Where one has to face the fear and risk of losing all while loving all. It is a tantric challenge that elevates one on the ever evolving spiritual path of liberation.” I just love that. I love the idea that sacred relationship can lead us to liberation. Just think about that for a minute, how beautiful. Yes, we can wake up together, and we’re meant to wake up together.
So let me formally introduce Dr. Gabriel Cousens. Dr. Cousens functions as a holistic physician, a homeopath, a psychiatrist, family therapist, Ayurvedic practitioner, and a Chinese herbalist. In addition, he’s a world leading diabetes researcher, ecological leader, spiritual master, founder, and director of the Tree of Life Foundation and the Tree of Life Center US. In addition, he’s a bestselling author of many books, and his new autobiography Into the Nothing: A Journey of Holistic Liberation will be available soon. So, welcome Dr. Cousens.

And what a conversation today, sacred relationship. It’s something that impacts all of us, and it’s challenging too. I mean, we’re all unique. We have ideas. We have beliefs. How can we overcome our differences and work together as a peaceful, joyous, loving global family?
It’s obviously a really good question, and as you said it’s an individual relationship, couple relationship, family, and societal. But there’s a principle behind all of this, okay? And first, it’s like the angle of the mind. How do we turn chaos and difficulty into opportunities to awaken and bring forth our best human qualities of compassion, love, humor, wisdom, and dedication to the truth? That’s the question, and ultimately all relationships, in the bigger understanding, help us awaken to God.
Fundamental to sacred relationship is experiencing the divine in each other, and as we take it a little further, experiencing the divine in all of our family members. And as we take a little bit further, experiencing the divine in our whole society. All human beings, from a spiritual point of view, are the spark of God. So to see the spark of God in people, we have to see it in ourselves. So we, in a sense, need to start with ourselves and move from there. Because you can’t see that spark of God when you don’t see it in yourself, right? There’s a fundamental beginning place.
