Have you ever thought about starting up a family business, maybe a soulful family side hustle? Let me just say that I am all about family. I’m just all about family. Whether we’re talking about our birth families, our soul families, chosen families, or our entire family of humanity, right? The family has so much to teach us, so much to offer us. And yes, it can be some of the toughest terrains to traverse throughout our lives, sure, but it also can offer some of the sweetest and richest gifts. Much like anything, yeah?

As we continue to grow and evolve at rapid rates, I really bow so deeply to the families that are forging new paths, that are sharing ways of doing things a little differently, a little creatively, a little outside the box. And it’s one thing to journey solo along a path of personal or spiritual development, it’s quite another thing to journey as a family along that path. And so I, for one, love hearing about families who are choosing the paths less traveled and learning all about their motivations and their experiences along the way. I feel that they have so much to share back and contribute from their experiences, from their new perceptions and vantage points, and I just find it all so inspiring.

That is why I am so extra excited to have Tonya and Alexa Ferrari joining us today for what I know will be a super fun conversation. Tonya and Alexa are an incredible mother-daughter duo who have teamed up to create a line of clean, chemical-free, luxury self-care products to encourage people to prioritize wellness of mind, body, and soul, and I just love that.

They are the co-founders of Salty Blue Self-Care, their soulful family side hustle that is allowing them both the opportunity, the blessing, to stay home with their young children while they simultaneously fulfill their soul mission of empowering others to prioritize self-care as a vital part of wellbeing. Not just when you have time, not just after the chores and everything else is done, but as a vital priority to wellbeing on all levels. I just love what these two are up to in the world. They are absolutely delightful. I find their motivations super inspiring, and I’m thrilled to have them on with us today. Tonya and Alexa, welcome to the show, you two.

I love it. Okay. And so you get to share the parenting journey together. I love this, I love this. And you’re sharing a business together, and do you share a home together too?

Alexa Ferrari:

We do.

Tonya Ferrari:

Yes, we do.

This is amazing. You get to parent and live and grow this soulful business together in a shared space multi-generationally.

Tonya Ferrari:

Absolutely. It’s been really wonderful. I also get to homeschool my younger children while being a part of my grandson’s life, and it’s really special.

Amorahki Fenn:

It sounds like a dream. That’s incredible.

Tonya Ferrari:

Hats off to you all. Wow. All right, so I got to ask, I got to ask, where did the name Salty Blue Self-Care come from? I love it.

Tonya Ferrari:

Well, thank you. I am an artist. I have been painting since I realized that I had opposable thumbs. And I have a painting called Salty Blue. I love the ocean. I am a passionate advocate for the ocean and its creatures, and I did a painting a couple of years ago and I titled it Salty Blue. And we also really like the symbol of the anchor serving as a reminder that no matter what’s happening as life has dished out all kinds of exciting stuff, we’re never going to be lost in the storm. We’re never going to float away. Our family unit is really tight, and there’s an anchor here that our family, no matter what we’re doing in life, can always come back here. A little bit of a nautical coastal theme, but also in terms of the anchor really symbolizing strength and security, and serving as an anchor for our family to come back to, no matter what’s happening in their lives.

Amorahki Fenn:

How much do I love that? Are you kidding? That is the best. I love that. And so do you have a picture of that painting?

Tonya Ferrari:

I do. As a matter of fact, on a lot of our product pictures, that painting is sitting behind the products.

Amorahki Fenn:

This is so great. It’s too great. Okay. I love it. I can’t wait to hear actually more about your motivations and your experience of launching this incredible family business during a global pandemic. I love this story, and I think that all kidding aside, that beautiful story about the anchor and the storm and how this is anchoring your family together in all these different levels is profound.
