Christine Krahling How do you lean in when what you want feels big? On today’s episode of A Glimpse Inside, host Wendy Perotti and fellow podcaster Christine Krahling, host of Bloom Where You’re Planted, talk about how you lean in when what you want feels too big. How do you thrive and grow when you still have fears over what you want? Join Wendy and Christine to discover more about leaning into what we want.

Welcome. This is A Glimpse Inside. I’m Wendy Perrotti, and today we are wrapping up our four-part series, play big, lean in and own it. This show will originally air on Christmas Eve, and I can’t think of a better time to talk about how to lean in when what you want feels really big. Sometimes we’re just too afraid to even wish for what we want, nevermind believe that it’s possible. My guests know that feeling well, and yet she has pushed past the fear and the Italian school girl guilt but we’ll get to that later and taught herself how to lean in and play big.

Christine A. Krahling is the Producer and host of the podcast, and it is a brilliant podcast, you all have to listen in, Bloom Where You Are Planted. Her essay of the same name appears in the anthology, Nothing But The Truth So Help Me God: 73 Women on Life’s Transitions. She’s a former Magazine Editor and her work has appeared in The Shriver Report and on Prevention.com.

Christine’s article seven tips for a successful book club won her an honorable mention in the Writer’s Digest writing competition. She also believes that there is almost nothing a good cupcake can’t fix.

While she’s met many a celebrity in her day, she’s still chasing Bruce Springsteen. So Bruce Springsteen, if you’re listening, pay attention. Christine is going to be giving her contact information shortly.

Thank you, Wendy.

I’m so excited to have you on the show, and merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas to you. I’m so happy to be here. This is like the best Christmas present ever.

Right? It’s so fun to get to talk about merry Christmas while the leaves are still here in the Northeast.

Right, right.

Actually, are you in the Northeast as well?

I am. I am in the Lehigh Valley area of Pennsylvania actually for the second time around, but I don’t know if we have time for that story.

We got time for lots of stories, and plenty of the ones we’ve laughed so many times about how we are probably separated at birth.

Yes, yes.

And I have overcome so much, although not all of that Italian Catholic good girl guilt.

Right, exactly.

Or the really big stuff happened in our lives. But before we get into all of those juicy stories and all of the really cool wisdom that I know you have to share with our folks today, let’s start by telling the audience a bit more about you.

Okay, so like you said, I’m Christine Krahling. I’m a writer, a former magazine editor and the host and producer of the podcast Bloom Where You Are Planted. The podcast is for people who are looking to be the best versions of themselves when life gets in the way, and I talk to authors and experts and we have conversations that are informative, inspirational and motivating.

So a little about me personally, I am originally from Queens, New York. However, I grew up in New Jersey and spent most of my life living there. So I was the quintessential Jersey girl, like you said, the Springsteen-loving, the big hair, all that, and while the hair has calmed down a bit, the love for The Boss has only amped up as the years have gone by.

Well, he’s one of the only people who ever used the name Wendy in a song, so.

Oh, there you go. That’s right. That’s right.

I have adored him since day one.

Oh my goodness. Another reason we’re separated at birth. So now when I hear Thunder Road, right? Is it Thunder Road? No, Born to Run.

It’s Born to Run.

Oh, shame on me. That’s right. I was thinking yesterday about if I was on a game show, like how many names of women he’s used in songs could I name, and I was running through them in my head and now you said that about Wendy, that’s hysterical. So anyway, I now live in the Lehigh Valley area of Pennsylvania for the second time around. I’m married. I have two daughters. One is an RN and a clinical coordinator at a pediatric office here in the Lehigh Valley, and the other is a college student in New Jersey studying to be a teacher.

Beautiful. And you bake cupcakes?

Well, I eat cupcakes. Yeah, every once in a blue moon, but I prefer to have other people bake them and I will purchase them and I will eat them.

It’s a funny thing. Something that very few people know about me is at one point when I was transitioning out of my first career as a spokesperson for the American Red Cross into motherhood, I thought, “Huh, I’m going to need something to do that is fun for me, make some money and have a little entrepreneurial endeavor,” and I actually became a pastry chef and thought-

Oh, really?

I did. I’m a certified pastry chef and I thought that I would while away all of those boring hours where I had nothing to do home with children, baking all these gorgeous cakes and making gum paste. Then of course my first child was born.

Yeah, and that all went out the window I’m guessing?

It was box mixes from.

Hey, there’s nothing wrong with a good box cake.

Right on, sister. Now my daughter actually loves, I have a 19 year old daughter and she loves to bake so he’s the baker in the family. We get good stuff from Leila, and you’re right, a good cupcake can cure just about anything.

Yeah. Well, that’s another thing we have in common, two 19 year old daughters who would like to bake.

The list goes on and on.

It goes on and on.

So we’re going to take a super duper quick break before we dive into how to lean in when what you want feels big, and I know you’ve had so much experience and have so much wisdom in this area. I can’t wait for us to share it with our listeners. Before we go, I have something that’s brand new and I’m so excited to get to launch this on Christmas Eve. We’re raffling off a private 90 minute deep dive from stuck to happy coaching session with me. All you need to do to enter is to text AGIWIN to 647-558-9895.
