Kristin Maxwell:

Yeah, I’m excited to have you. This is definitely, especially since COVID, something that I think is on a lot of people’s mind when I talk to a lot of my friends and all of this. But before we get into all the meat of what you do, let me ask you my first question which is, what superpower did you uncover as the result of mastering your mind?

Dr. Sherry Price:

I love this question so much, and what I discovered was I have complete control, so I would say control. I know that being in the healthcare system and having a lot of embarrassment and shame thinking as a healthcare practitioner I shouldn’t have this issue, I know better, I know the statistics. I know the traditional model to take care of an alcohol abuse or misuse type of issue is really abstinence and I knew about the principles of AA. One of the things that they tout or, is this concept of being powerless. Whenever I thought about that, that just made me feel weak, incompetent. That just goes against everything I believe, especially for women, especially for individuals. Given this choice of free will that we were given, we do make decisions. We make decisions all the time about what we choose to do or not do, what we choose to eat or not eat or drink or not drink.

I really wanted to tap into this. How can I learn to be in control of my drinking and also take that to the next level of in control of my desire for alcohol? So not just alcohol itself but the emotions that were coming up inside of my body that made me want to drink alcohol. I call that desire. You could call that urge. You can call that cravings. You can call that a desire to relax, a desire to unwind. It’s some form of desire that increases the beautifulness of wanting to drink, increases that desire to actually pour a glass and then continue pouring glasses. That’s where I ran into the issue, is I kept pouring more and more and more. And so, learning how to really control my desire, really control what my brain thought about, really control, “Hey, if I want this from alcohol what other ways can I get this same desired endpoint without using alcohol to meet that?”

Kristin Maxwell:

Huh, that was beautiful. I just love how you talk about having control. The thing that’s very interesting is I think a lot of people, especially with something that might have and we’ll talk more about this, a slight physical craving part of it, people feel really out of control. I know I have been there, I’ve had sugar, sugar’s been a really hard thing for me to kick, so I want to really dive deeply more into what you brought up there. But before we go into that, let’s just go straight into a break so we can come back, where I’m going to let everybody know that you can learn more about the drink less lifestyle, the podcast and the program at Dr. Sherry Price’s website, drinklesslifestyle.com. Also, you can learn more about the programs that we have and community at Super Power Experts at superpowerexperts.com. Hang on just a moment and we will be right back.
