How Motherhood Re-shapes Us

How can motherhood reshape us? When does the transformation occur? In this episode of Superpower Mommas, host Tatiana Berdei and guest Devorah Bry talk about motherhood and how it can transform women’s lives. The reshaping that occurs during motherhood is not only about a woman’s physical aspect of her body. Her emotions, spirit, and mind are also in this conversion process. Tune in and discover why carrying a baby in the womb and raising a new human are catalysts for the metamorphosis of women.

Tatiana Berindei:

Hello everyone and welcome to Season two of Superpower Mommas. I am your host, Tatiana Berindei, and I am so delighted to be with you here today on this show, devoted to rebirthing the sacred journey of motherhood. I am equally delighted to have my dear friend and sister Devorah Bry joining us today. Devorah is one of my favorite people in the world. I’m going to read her bio to you and tell you a bit more about her work that in the world. Also, vouching for her as just an incredible, present, conscious, amazing human therefore I’m really excited to have them with us here. Let me tell you a bit about Devorah.

First, Devorah is a mother to an amazing one-year-old. Professionally, Dev has been working therapeutically and facilitating rites of passages for girls, women, men, and couples of all genders for more than 15 years. She received an ordination from the IM School of Healing Arts in 2004 and received her Master’s Degree in Somatic Psychology in 2007. She’s a certified Hakomi therapist and has extensive training in a variety of body-oriented healing modalities.

In essence, Dev is a dancer, both in motherhood and in all of life. She’s a certified soul-emotion teacher and offers movement ministry throughout the world. She’s the founder and co-creator of HoneyRoot Women’s Embodiment Community, an organization devoted to an embodiment, inclusive spirituality, social justice, and intergenerational collaboration.

In addition to supporting the reawakening of the body’s wisdom, assisting couples in the spiritual dance of relationships is one of Dev’s greatest gifts and deepest passions. Today, she and I are going to be talking about how motherhood reshapes us. I’m so excited you’re here today, Dev. Thank you for coming on the show as my first guest.

Devorah Bry:

It’s my pleasure. Thank you so much for having me. I can just feel the rightness of both of us being in our versions of motherhood, how close in time we had our recent babies, and that we’re here igniting this one together. Thank you.

Tatiana Berindei:

Just a caveat to all of those listeners, we are mothers and we are recording podcasts during COVID. There may, at some point, be sounds of children in the background and we’re going to do our best to mitigate that. All of you out there with mothering ears, you know how to tune that kind of noise out. So we just ask for your forgiveness and thank you for allowing the realness of what life as a working mom looks like in the space here today.

Devorah Bry:

I know you know, the opportunity to let it be a part of the symphony is something that our nervous systems really do have to get used to in motherhood. So there’s the chance to tune it out, and then the opportunity to let it in, and be a part of our time together.

Tatiana Berindei:

Yes, integrate it. I have found that oftentimes the sounds of children punctuate really poignant moments when we really engage with it in this space that you were just inviting us all into, Dev. Probably with all this conversation, there will be no children’s sounds after all, but we never know. We’re inviting the element of chaos, surprise, and mystery that the children invite into our lives, and to this conversation as well.

We are going to go for a quick break, and I don’t like to dive too deeply into the conversation before we do that. I want to share with the listeners how we came to choose this topic today. Before we were recording, you were bringing forward this thread of your own personal journey, and how there was this mothering space for you to occupy even before becoming a mom in the physically embodied reality.

We should allow the journey of motherhood to reshape not just the body, but also the mind, emotions, and spirit. The alchemy can take place there. The potential transformation and reshaping are possible even before the baby is born. Of course, it continues once the baby is born and as we embark on the journey of raising a new human. So it is the kind of thread that we’re taking you today. Dev, before we take a break, will you tell the listeners where they can go to find out more about you in the work that you do in the world?

Devorah Bry:

Sure, thanks for the opportunity. So the organization that I started years ago has a website, honeyroot.org. The work I do outside of the organization, even though it informs it is fullspectrumrelationship.org and movingfromthecenter.com. So three sites that you can go and check out what I’ve been up to.

Tatiana Berindei:

Beautiful. And if we ever get to do the events like HoneyRoot again, they’re magical, Dev creates a magical space. And I can vouch for that, personally. There are few people that I trust with my process and be able to hold me and my process. Dev is one of those people. So, I think very highly of you, and I love you so much. I can’t say enough good stuff about you, and I’m excited about the conversation. We’re going to go on a quick break and we will be right back, stay tuned. Don’t go anywhere. This is going to be a good one.
