Justin Recla:

Welcome back to Incorporating Superpowers. Today I want to talk about something a little bit different. My guest today has been in the healthcare industry for 20-odd years. He’s a Healthcare Executive. And I think it’s very, very timely given my current situation, I just got done through some skin cancer, and I’ve been taking care of some stuff, and made me realize the importance of my own health and looking forward as to where our business is going and the type of just the type of busyness that we’re going to have and how important it is to manage our healthcare on a day to day basis. And it’s much bigger than that, especially at the business and company levels. And just taking care of yourself because it’s about taking care of the team. My guest today is Joshua DeTillio. He is the author of Healthy You, Healthy Team, Healthy Company. As I said, he’s been in the healthcare industry for the last 20 years. And he’s here to share some of the knowledge he’s put together in his book around why health is so important in business big Josh, welcome to the show.

Josh DeTillio:

Thank you glad to be here.

Justin Recla:

Joshua, talk to me about this. You’ve healthcare industry, this set the framework first, tell us a little bit about your background, what makes you the authority in this book with your background experience?

Josh DeTillio:

Well, my background is initially in the army, and then transitioned into healthcare and healthcare leadership, I’ve been working in hospitals working my way up for about 20 years about 13, as a CEO of hospitals, and in a previous hospital, we just had a really great experience with a wellness program and really helped a lot of people become more healthy, as well as creating higher productivity in the organization, which really just fostered you know, a great culture as well as productivity improvements, and just better healthcare in general. I wouldn’t say I’m an expert, but we’ve, I’ve had some success in the space over time.

Justin Recla:

Well, you’ve been in the industry for 20 years. So you don’t make it that long in the industry. If you’re not great at what you do. And to be able to write a book about it is extremely valuable. What talk to me a little bit about the overarching concept or perspective that you hold with the book, as far as health is concerned? What does the book focus on?

Josh DeTillio:

The book’s focus is really on a journey that we went on a multi-year journey, and one of the organizations I was in, in the hospital, where we really identified that people wanted more wellness, and they wanted more balance. And we’re seeing that in all industries. Now that employees really don’t want to work all the time. And they need to take better care of themselves and have more time for their family. And if you think about it, the two most important things in life are really health and family. And I would put health number one because if you don’t have your health and you won’t have your family, you won’t be around. So we went on this multi-year journey really focused on several stages. And the book kind of goes in the line of progression where you really need to focus on yourself, focus on your own health first, get healthy before, especially as a leader in order to be able to lead others, and then you need to find other people in the organization that want to join on that bandwagon and start introducing more healthy ideas, more different, different programs. And then it starts to catch on. And ultimately you start looking at data and you start understanding what everyone wants. And then it just kind of feeds from there. So we had a lot of success and helped a lot of people from their chronic diseases helped them get healthier, and made them much more productive employees that were just taking excellent care of our patients.

Justin Recla:

Fantastic. And when we get back from the break, I want to talk a little bit more about some of the some of things that you’re seeing some of the things that businesses should be considering for the health of their organization and their team members as well. But before we do, where can people go to find more information about you and your book?

Josh DeTillio:

You can find me on LinkedIn, [email protected] is my email address, and feel free to email me if you want to find the book on Amazon Healthy You, Healthy Team, Healthy Company. Just do a Google search for that and you’ll find it.
