Celebrate All Things

Do you celebrate all things that come your way? Are you grateful for everything that you have— good or bad? In this episode of Incorporating Superpowers, host Justin Recla and Sherry Belul talk about Sherry’s experience of being in a dark place and her superpower of finding joy in all things. Sometimes, we are so focused on achieving and gaining more that we forget the long journey that has been, how far we have reached, and the things that we have. Staying elevated is one of the ways to remember to celebrate all things— grand or simple. Tune in and get to know Sherry, a happiness coach for those who want to celebrate the relationships in their life.

Justin Recla:

Welcome back to Incorporating Superpowers. Today, we are going to talk about something that’s often overlooked in the business world because it’s really easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle and the grind of being an entrepreneur, of being a business owner. It’s really easy to get caught up in those things that just create new prisons for ourselves. My guest today just happens to be an expert in this area of celebration. Today, we’re going to be talking about that, of what does it look like to celebrate in all things? When should you celebrate? Should you celebrate first? Should you celebrate after the win? When should you celebrate? What does that all look like?

My guest today is Sherry Belul. She’s the founder of Simply Celebrate and the author of her latest book called Say It Now, which plays a really, really big and important role in our lives. I firmly believe in that saying, say it now and get it out now, because it’s never too early because it’s always going to be too late if you don’t. Sherry, thank you so much for being here on the show today. I look forward to this conversation.

Sherry Belul:

Oh, thank you, Justin. I’m so happy to be here.

Justin Recla:

Sherry, talk to me a little bit. Give me an over compassing. What’s the purpose of Simply Celebrate? What is that business?

Sherry Belul:

Yes. Simply Celebrate is really a way for me to first of all, for myself, of course, and then to help other people celebrate themselves, the shape of their lives, and the people in their lives. Because like you said, all too often, people get so caught up in the busy-ness and the distractions of life that we can forget that we’re here right now. Moment to moment to moment, this is our gift.

Justin Recla:

I absolutely agree. It’s the fact that you wake up every day. There’s something to celebrate in that.

Sherry Belul:

Yes.

Justin Recla:

Especially if you’re in the business world, especially if you’re not new, there’s something to celebrate about that just waking up piece. Where did this concept come from? Why did you bring about Simply Celebrate?

Sherry Belul:

Yeah. Thank you. I’m so glad that we’re starting here because a lot of times, people hear the name of my company and they think, “Oh, it’s about balloons and confetti.” The truth of it is, Justin, this work for me started when I went through about 30 years ago as a young woman, deep, deep depression. I had a lot of suicidal tendencies and thoughts. I was by grace. By grace, I was led to a meditation class and what felt like an iron wall closing in on me, I just felt like I was being crushed, during that meditation, there was this moment of wellbeing. Do you know how that is? It was in-breath and it was like a pinprick of light in that wall that was closing in on me, in that iron wall.

From there, I learned to be in those moments, in those tiny moments of wellbeing. Of course, for the longest time, it was all about me. I was just saving myself, right? I would have a moment of holding my cat and just be like, “I don’t want to kill myself. I’m okay.”

Justin Recla:

Wow.

Sherry Belul:

Grace, you know? Grace, grace. Grace came in and it not only saved my life. I learned to find moments of celebration. I learned to create moments of celebration. Then, of course, the best part of it was when I was able to see how many other people were in the dark. You know what? It may not be extreme like I was, but people experiencing their own moments of loss and grief and disappointment and beating up on themselves and feeling like they weren’t getting far enough, all those things that people suffer over. I turned it into business because it’s what I still practice every moment.

Justin Recla:

Well, you seem like you are the perfect avatar for that, because for the fact that you’d be able to come out of deep depression and do just divine grace, that you wound up recognizing that all you had to do was start celebrating your own life. I love that because it’s addictive. It’s active, absolutely addictive because people, where do they go? Even in the dark times, you can still celebrate. You can still. You can still find a reason to celebrate. I know as a business owner, as an entrepreneur, that is a … I know that’s tough because the journey in itself, in the business world, as an entrepreneur, has its ups and downs, right? Sometimes, those downs are really, really down. I love the fact that you mentioned grace, and it’s learning how to lean into that grace that we need to find. The only place that I know of where we can find our celebrations and the things that actually matter and bring meaning to our life as to why we’re doing what we’re doing in the first place.

Sherry Belul:

Oh, yes, and Justin, I so appreciate what you just said about, often for entrepreneurs, there are those. It’s like a roller coaster ride. If we’re only waiting to be happier, to celebrate, when we, and I’m putting quote marks here, “succeed,” or when something goes right, then we’re in trouble, right? That’s why I call my company Simply. It’s that double entendre of, just do it, but it’s also simple, simple moments of celebration.

Justin Recla:

Yeah, this is good stuff. Now, folks, as you’re listening to this, if you’ve ever found yourself in a dark moment, in not looking for … You can’t find anything. You’re looking out, and it’s so dark around you that you can’t find something to celebrate. I want you to make sure you get a chance to connect with Sherry and just see what she’s doing because it is addictive. Sherry, when we get on, we’re getting ready to go on break, and when we get back from the break, we’re going to talk about your book, Say it Now, and where that came from. Before we go on break, where can people go find more information about you?

Sherry Belul:

Awesome. Thank you, Justin. My website is simplycelebrate.net.

Justin Recla:
