Are you hesitant to reach your goals this year with everything that is happening in the world? The most common mistake that you can make when you want to make a change or reach a goal is to overcomplicate things. In this episode of A Glimpse Inside Reinvention, co-hosts Wendy Perrotti and Dana Hilmer walk you through exactly how to simplify the process no matter how big or daunting it may seem at the onset. Join Wendy and Dana in today’s episode and discover how you can reach your goals this year.

Welcome to A Glimpse Inside Reinvention. I’m Wendy Perrotti, and I am joined today with my co-host and Camp Reinvention co-founder, Dana Hilmer. We’re here to help you build your dream and love your life. And I’ve just wrapped up the This Is My Year series on A Glimpse Inside. And today we want to talk to you about how you can make this year different from all of the years in the past, and how you can reach your goals this year. So, Dana, you and I were talking just before we hit record about the phenomenon of the New Year’s resolution.

Yes, absolutely. And I think it’s going to even be more of a phenomenon this year, because everybody wants to make up for what last year wasn’t, when we look back it’s really funny. We have all sorts of beautiful hope and dreams and plans for this year. It’s funny because resolutions, everybody’s inspired to create them, but there are stats that show that about 80% of the people actually have them fizzle out and die by the middle of February. So clearly resolutions and willpower sometimes aren’t doing the trick. So I’m really happy today that we can help the listeners drill down on the things that they can do to make it stick because we don’t want to get all pumped up with these things we want to do, and then feel defeated that we’re just not making them happen.

You know that word willpower and discipline gets bandied about as like a whip, that we torture ourselves with, that we didn’t have the willpower, we didn’t have the discipline. I just need to have more discipline, right? How many times have we heard that from friends and colleagues and clients of ours, I need to have more discipline? And the fact of the matter is that while you can grow willpower, while you can grow discipline as a skillset, it’s always a finite resource.

It is. In fact, it’s funny, both will power and your ability to make decisions is indeed finite, and you can only do so much of it in one day. So if you’re using your willpower on not eating that chocolate chip cookie, for example.

I love that study.

An hour later for the other goal. So relying on willpower is tough and there are so many things that get in the way, we just need to set ourselves up for success.

So what we’re going to talk to you all about today is less about all of those things that you should do and how to be harder on yourself and stricter with yourself. And we’re really going to talk about how to use your own body’s physiology, the way that your body naturally works, your own natural tendencies, and be easy with yourself to build on new ways of getting things done. And we’re going to take a really quick break before we dive into that, before we do if you’re reinventing and eager to get rolling on that reinvention, head over to campreinvention.com and sign up for our free camp notes. There are all kinds of information on our reinvention programs there as well. But camp notes are completely free to you and we’ll send you, it’s like a weekly inspiration and quote and journal entry that you can and use to move your path forward. We’ll be back in a flash. And when we come back, you’ll learn how to reach your goals this year. We’ll see you on the other side.
