INTEGRITY
In no other time in history has the concept of integrity been so front-and-center in the public, social, or global eye. From the presidential election in the United States to pandemic reactions around the world, we hit critical mass for underhanded dealings and must make a decision to proceed differently. The scrutiny placed on anything we don’t agree with or any conversation that makes us uncomfortable immediately brings up questions around integrity. But how can two embattled people, or groups or countries, both claim to be holding true to righteous character, complete with integrity, but find themselves in an irreconcilable differential? The only way to navigate these matters is to peel the layers back from the programming, socialization and warped social norms that elevate disingenuity and discourage integrity. And this happens at the very personal the way to the collective levels. So, where do we start?
In this IM Series on Integrity, we begin with the individual and look at personal integrity. We explore what that means and how to establish a solid foundation within yourself so you can navigate the world more easily, guided by a compass you can trust. From there we tackle organizational integrity. We may feel incredibly solid within ourselves when it comes to integrity, but what happens when that all goes out the window the second we interact with others? Our internal integrity compass must be established well enough to guide us through complicated and uncomfortable situations. There is no better way to test, forge and master this than in groups. For some of us, we’d be happy if we could just get some form of integrity within our families. From that perspective we start to understand why we continue to have conversations about simply being nice and doing the right thing around the globe. We uncover some of the deeper implications of this as we move into the third message on collective integrity and paint a picture of what’s possible if each of us starts now to pursue something greater.
The Series
Most definitely no one has all the answers right now for the numerous things plaguing our global society. But what we do know is that when we build strong internal foundations and persevere to establish those organizationally and collectively, we have an opportunity to do better and be better. We can pursue a higher calling and invite others to do the same. It might not be popular right now, but it is effective. Years ago, we heard the call to bring everyone into the same conversation and get people to work together. We’ve been in an extensive study of that ever since. It is possible and it is doable and…it is necessary. If you are a leader or influencer, for even one person, spend some time with the series and challenge yourself to come out the other side with a bigger perspective of the impact we make when we hold tightly to where our hearts guide us and stand in integrity while inviting others to do the same.
