Ayn Cates Sullivan:

Welcome, light travelers. This is Ayn Cates Sullivan, host of Messages of Infinite Light, where we envision new humanity. Can you see it now? It’s going to be good.

I’m also the author of a new novel, Nimue: Freeing Merlin. It’s very magical, and I’ll be sharing some adventures and insights from this new award-winning book.

Today I’m offering you a monologue about the process of finding the light of Merlin, which is actually the spiritual essence that resides within each one of us, our eternal spark. It’s also what the protagonist Nina must seek in order to realize her true nature.

Nimue might be someone who’s familiar or not familiar. She’s a complicated character, but she’s also a Lady of the Lake. That’s her main archetype. She’s one of the nine Ladies of the Lake, a wonderful and magical archetype. She’s also the lover of Merlin, and she’s eager to learn everything that he knows.

In the story, a young girl named Nina realizes that she was Nimue in a previous life, and she travels back to the fifth century to find Merlin. You see, it was Nimue that sealed Merlin in a tree until the time of his return, and that hour is now. We need Merlin.

The light of Merlin is a subject that is really dear to my heart. I think this world could use a lot more light and sparkle. You see, once we find our inner light, then we know we are eternal, we are creator beings. From that place of inner knowing, then we can embody and engage with full presence in the world.

The reason I love Merlin is that, archetypally, he represents the person who has been through the challenges and difficulties of life, even times of madness, and he has returned as a sage. He’s an integrated being.

Often spiritual awakenings include moments where we feel we have gone mad, and actually, we’re not really insane. We’re in the process of reimagining ourselves so we need to learn to be kind to ourselves when we’re in the process of a spiritual awakening. Once we’ve integrated our new understanding, then we can proceed as teachers, healers, artists, writers, composers, authentic beings.

Now, in Arthurian legend, Merlin heals, matures, and evolves as a person until he is no longer just human, but a human with superpowers. Some say he’s an incubus and human. I don’t really go for that so much. I really believe he’s an ancient, ancient archetypal being, a deity who has been around since the beginning of time.

In Arthurian legend, he goes through initiations and becomes the intuitive enchanter. He’s a prophet, a shape-shifter, often turning into a wren or a white stag, but his real superpower is magic.

Now, one of his well-known supernatural feats is the intrigue and bewitching that creates the young author. We all know the story. If you’re interested in the details and the history of this myth of Merlin, and you don’t know it, you can pick up Nimue: Freeing Merlin and read my author’s afterword so I go into detail about where that comes from in the book.

Anyway, the point of the novel is to help us understand that the spiritual seeker must delve into a new type of consciousness, a holistic and multidimensional consciousness in order to become a sage. There are lots of exercises and practices in the book to assist a seeker to find the archetypal magician within.

I feel we can go through this type of personal alchemy. I mean, each one of us really does it. We transform if we do the work, and the book follows the classical hero’s journey, but with a twist. It’s the heroine who is discovering who she is, not the hero, and she certainly is a time traveler. We understand the hero’s journey. It’s built into almost every novel and movie, but the next step is an integrating and awakening, not just as individuals, but as humanity, which is what this podcast is really about.

Now, this is challenging. We’re used to setting goals and achieving them, but suddenly the world right now, this world, is demanding something else from us. You see, humanity is awakening.

Now, I’m recording this episode, the Light of Merlin, as we approach the winter months, and the nights grow longer as we enter the darkness. Now, in the darkness, we have time to dream and to imagine it, to look at the stars.

This isn’t a time to fear. I see fear just makes us small and helpless. It’s not something we want to fall for. This is a time to dream, to find inner peace and the light of hope and joy and love. When we close our eyes and sit in silence, we can feel something new trying to emerge. Can you feel it? You might just feel it right now. Just pause for a moment. What’s happening?

Humanity appears to be undergoing a shift in which the old ways no longer work, and the new has not yet arrived. There is division and chaos. And yet, if we close our eyes and put our hands on our hearts and realize something extraordinary is taking place, then we can keep going. The caterpillar is sleeping and dreaming of itself becoming the butterfly.

Now, who knows this process better than the archetype of the wizard, the alchemist, the one who knows how to turn lead into gold?

I’m going to stop for a quick ad break. When I get back, we’ll continue to delve into the mysteries. I might give you a little visualization to do and maybe read a little from the book, and let’s experience what it is to be the Light of Merlin. Hey, it’s fun to be magical, so stay tuned. I’ll be right back.
