And I am really excited to be talking to him about what it takes to step into high performance, to become the person who can be an exceptional leader. But anyway, Dr. Pernell, welcome to Your SuperPowered Mind.
Dr. Wayne Pernell:
Yay. It’s great to be here. It’s really great to be here. And it’s a good day to really step forward and show your true self.
Kristin Maxwell :
Yes. I love that. Yes, I love, and I’ll ask you some questions, is a lot of your work around leadership really gets into emphasizing who the person is. Who they want to be, how they show up. And so, that’s relevant to all of us in our work, whether we see ourselves as a leader or not.
Dr. Wayne Pernell:
Yes, it’s interesting because that’s actually the premise I start with, which is, we’re all leaders. Don’t think of yourself as, “Oh, this is a leadership show, or this is an interview about leadership.” You’re a leader. If you are being watched by anybody, and whether that’s a coworker or a family member, or maybe just somebody in a grocery store sees how you hold yourself as you go down the grocery store aisle, you’re being noticed. And that makes you a leader because you are a person of influence.
Kristin Maxwell :
Yeah. It’s interesting. And it’s especially true for parents. Think of how much we’re influencing. And before we go into that, let me ask you my question, because I always love to hear what people say. And that is, what superpower did you uncover as a result of mastering your mind?
Dr. Wayne Pernell:
It’s an interesting thing. I figured out that my superpower is that I can see stuck. I can see it. It’s almost energetic. It’s almost a color. I see where people embody it and I listen for it. People who are a little timider, can’t find the air to get their words out. And others are so apologetic sometimes.
And it’s not that if you have one voice or another that you’re stuck. It’s that, that is maybe one of the signs or symptoms of stuckness. But I can actually see stuck, and I realized other people can’t do that the exact same way I do.
Kristin Maxwell :
How did you discover that? Just out of curiosity.
Dr. Wayne Pernell:
I grew up high on a hillside, and as a scrawny little kid, I would open my jacket and the wind would gust up the hillside. And I’d lean over the side of the hill and the wind would hold me up as I would hold my jacket open. And I felt like I was soaring with the hawks. And I’d lay back in the grass and I’d stare up. And I did what I later found out was cloud burning.
And so, I had always been attuned to energy for whatever reason. And I grew up realizing that, or I grew up knowing that I could see where people were feeling certain things. And it wasn’t until later that, in conversation with other people, that I realized that that was kind of a unique thing.
And the sad part is it was trained out of me for a while. We get into this, go to work, you show up, you play a certain role. And so, to come back to it was really about my power and choosing my power.
Kristin Maxwell :
Yeah. That’s amazing. That is really, really great. And what I love is that not only now can you see stuck, but you help people to get out of the stuck.
Dr. Wayne Pernell:
Yes.
Kristin Maxwell :
Which is great. So, we do need to take a break. We always take one quickly on the show so we can go deeper. Can you let people know where they can find you and your work?
Dr. Wayne Pernell:
Yes. You can either find my name, waynepernell.com, or Dynamic Leader, if that is easier to remember, dynamicleader.com.
Kristin Maxwell :
Great. And I will put that in the show notes. Hang on, everybody. We are going to be going on a break. Remember that you also, if you want to check out some of our programs and magic that we do over at Super Power Experts, you can always go to yoursuperpoweredmind.com. Hang on, we’ll be right back.
