How can we understand our multi-sensory intelligence? In this episode of Wisdom of the Ages, host Ayn Cates Sullivan is joined by guest Nusa Maal as they talk about multi-sensory intelligence as an increasing part of our culture. Nusa shares how indigenous people are naturally multi-sensory and that technology poses a challenge because it disconnects us from nature. Join Ayn and Nusa in today’s episode to know more about multi-sensory intelligence and the importance of understanding true perception.
Welcome and blessings. This is Ayn Cates Sullivan, host of Wisdom of the Ages : Weaving the Sacred into Modern day Reality. During times of shift and change, it really benefits us to understand how we’re changing, if this helps us as we blossom into a new humanity. Each week I interview spiritual teachers, thinkers, healers, and authors from around the world. And I also offer monologues where I dive into the specific spiritual topics. I can go more deeply with a monologue. And you can go on and listen to any of these episodes on superpowerexperts.com/wisdomoftheages. And you can also find spiritual books and fairy tales on my publishing website, which is infinitelightpublishing.com.
I’m going to mention a specific book, it’s Ella’s Magic. And Ella’s Magic is a little fairy tale that I wrote about a girl who has special powers. She’s afraid of them, so she has to find a guardian, Cosmos, who helps her understand her multisensory intelligence. That’s what this interview is today, it’s with my very special friend, Nusa Maal. She’s a doctoral student in psychology at the Pacifica Graduate Institute, a teacher of Qigong, a mother, a fascinating person. She’s a synesthesia scholar, so she’s going to describe what that is, but I think as we go into the future, we’re going to hear more about synesthesia. She’s an educator and visual facilitator. You can find out more about her on nusamaal.com. If you have a child with synesthesia or you, yourself, are experiencing multisensory intelligence and need some assistance with that, you can go and check her out there, nusamaal.com.Â
Nusa’s been one of my very favorite mystical inquiry partners for many years now. I think what I’m going to do is just invite her in now, and give us just a one-minute definition of multisensory perception. Then we’ll take a break, and after the break, she is going to lead us into a biome, so that we can understand how we build our own personal bubble. Anyway, Nusa Maal, welcome.
Thank you so much, Ayn, and thank you for having me. It’s wonderful to be here. Multisensory intelligence is coming from synesthesia which is the involuntary convergence of the senses. And we’re talking about a way of being and basically being in touch with experience directly through, not just the one single sense, but the corresponding inner harmony or symphony of information that is happening pre-verbally. For example, I might see a bright light and I might hear a kind of brightness, or my kids will say something wakes up and they say this experience seems maybe like an inner echo or resonance. And what I’m inviting us to do is to tune into that. Because as we bring our awareness and understanding, and attention into these echoes, we’ll discover that it’s a harmonic of multiple ways of perceiving at once, which actually enhances our understanding of what is our direct contact with the world, with experience and in life.Â
Wonderful. Okay, so we’re going to dive into that a little bit more. And before the ad break, I just want to say I think this is really important for us to understand. Because so many children are showing symptoms of multisensory intelligence now, and sometimes in ways that are quite challenging. We’re going to get into that. Okay, so stay tuned. We’ll be right back, and after the break, we will develop a biome. Stay tuned, we’ll be right back.Â
