Hello and welcome. You’re listening to SuperPower Mommas, which is one of the shows on the SuperPower Up Network. I am so excited to be with you today. Today, our topic is arranging your home for more peace and joy. During turbulent times, we are often needing to find something to ground us and create a peace within our lives. Sometimes it’s the very, very small things that can create that joy and peace, which is why it is like a raindrop. You know, that one little bit that can create an ocean of peace and joy and really affect our families and the whole world. Right? Today with our guest, her name is Laura Platt, and she is joining me to talk about this topic of arranging your home. She’s the perfect person to talk about this because her passion is really about peace and joy and creating that in the work that she does.
She has a lifelong love for art and color. She has learned tools to help anyone who works with her to maximize their potential in their home as well as prepare it for either living in or selling or whatever it is that they’re hiring her for. What I love is that she has also been a single mom for seven years. She has two children. What she specializes in is in helping people to navigate life’s transitions and bring more peace and joy into their lives. In 2020, there’s been a lot of transition for all of us. I’m very excited to bring Laura Platt to you. Welcome Laura.
Hi. Thank you so much, Laura.
I’m so glad you’re here.
Me too.
By the way, I know Laura. We were in a group together, right? We spent some time together and I’ve heard her presentation with Feng shui, which is really an interesting topic that she also talks about and uses in her work. But Laura, before we start with all of that, I’m going to start with the first question that we always ask on this show which is, what is your momma superpower?
All right. I asked my kids who are 14 and 17 this question, and they actually had the same idea that I did. My son said that I just make things work. I probably would have phrased it more as I’ve learned through a lot of challenges, many, many challenges that the one thing we have control over is our reaction and that most things can be dealt with especially if you give it enough time and enough patience. My daughter actually had a favorite story to go along with this if you don’t mind me sharing.
I would love it if you share it.
Okay.
I’m sure our listeners, we love stories.
This goes back to when my kids were probably about three and seven. My daughter had to be three or four years old. We lived in Pottersville and we had a small pantry. I guess on this day she decided that she wanted to get this juice off of the shelf by herself. It was big of course, like a gallon of purple juice that she wanted to get off the shelf. When it came off the shelf, it hit the floor and exploded and there was purple juice dripping off of everything. Off of the light fixtures, off of the door, off of the food, there was purple juice on the ceiling in my kitchen.
I can just see it.
It was everywhere. Both of them paused and looked at me to see what my reaction was going to be because you know that moment when they look at you like, oh no, what’s going to happen here. I just started laughing. I was laughing so hard, I was crying. Even thinking about it now, it’s just so funny. I just could not stop laughing. Then we all started laughing. To this day, my daughter remembers that story and calls it the great juice explosion. What I think is important about it is that instead of getting angry in that moment, instead of getting frustrated, hopefully I taught her that we all make mistakes and that’s okay. Looking back on it, it was just one of those things that happen in the moment, but I’ve tried to be that kind of parent where when things happen, I can take a step back and think, all right, well, what’s really important here?
Wow. What a beautiful story. Thank you for sharing that.
Thank you.
Yeah, because it really drives home the point and we are talking about our home, but what we really want is peace and joy, right?
Yes.
I know I was speaking to a group in a different location and I asked the mothers there like, what do you really want when it comes down to it? They just said peace, everyone said the same thing. Peace.
Okay.
We’re all looking for that, and yet we find struggling just in finding that for ourselves, for our families. Even the world has had trouble and yet everybody wants it. I’m very, very excited to have you continue this conversation, but it looks like we need to take a break first. Before we go into this, I’m sure that people are going to want to find you. Can you tell people where they can look?
Absolutely. My website is foxandfairystaging.com. I have a home staging business. My email is just l[email protected]. I have an Instagram that I’m pretty active on, that’s Fox and Fairy.
Beautiful. When we come back, so stay with us, when we come back, we’re going to be talking more with Laura about her parenting as well and especially since she’s been a single mom for many years. Also, her passion which is her work of beautifying and creating peace and joy in your homes. Stay with us. We will be right back.
