Hi everyone. It’s your Super Power Kid, Neva Lee Recla, and I’m very excited for today’s interview. We are talking about how to make your business fun. Now I think this is really important because making your business fun and doing what you love, especially as an entrepreneur, is really important because you get to do new things every single day and you get to have fun while doing it. So, if you want to know how to make your business fun or you want to know how to start a fun business, this is the show for you. Now, our guest today is pretty awesome. Her name is Molly Mahoney. We met at Steve Olsher’s New Media Summit and she’s just pretty awesome as well as she’s the host of Camera Confidence Live, and she’s just so fun and so awesome, so out further ado will you help me welcome our guest Molly? Hi.

Hi. This is so great.

How are you?

I’m just so jazzed. You know, having fun and playing is one of my most favorite things to help other people to do, and you are so great at having fun so I think we’re going to come up with some magic today. I love it.

I think we are too. I can already tell you have a lot of superpowers and I can already tell they’re fun ones, but can you name a few of them for us?

Yeah, sure. I used to get almost embarrassed about this, but people used to come … Not used to. People still do come up to me and they say, “Man, I love your energy,” and I used to have this weird thing that was like, “Uh, thank you.” Right? Rather than recognizing, I was like, “That’s great, but like, what do I do with that?” Rather than recognizing that really I have a unique ability to tap into a sense of positivity, a sense of joy that can be contagious, and the more that I feed that superpower and own that superpower, the better it is and the more that I can spread joy everywhere. So, I’d say that’s my number one.

That’s really good. I think that that ties into chameleon ability where it’s like you can bring your energy into certain places and use it how it’s supposed to be used in that situation, and I definitely have it because especially going to business conferences, there’s a lot of people and there’s a lot of energy, so you have to be able to kind of move your energy and let it flow through the business conferences to also connect with a bunch of different people.

That is such a good point because sometimes I think especially people who are more inclined to be a higher vibration energy, it can be overwhelming and it can be like going on, so I think it’s so important to empathize and to listen, and working as an actor professionally before launching my marketing consultancy agency, I think doing the deeper work to learn about other people and to learn about ourselves can really help with that too.

Yeah, I agree, and also, I feel like having the power to be able to spread joy and all that, which everyone has.

Yes.

But being able to do that is really awesome because it shows people a new way of living almost, and also, especially in business, its kind of shows them a new way of doing business and that, in my opinion, it doesn’t have to be boring. You can have fun with it.

Yeah, actually boring is a thing that’ll help you to kill your business as quickly as possible. Right?

Yeah, and that’s why I love having these conversations with people because it’s so different than what most people are used to because as an entrepreneur, in my opinion, people leave their businesses, I mean their typical jobs, to come do something that they love, so why not make it fun? Why not do it so you have fun with it and everybody likes it and almost turn it into your own personal playgrounds?

Amen, and I think that one of the hardest things for a lot of people is that they don’t even know how to identify what fun is for them. When I work coaching video stuff, I’m like, “Bring more of your actual natural energy, the things that you love into your videos,” and they feel like they have to try and be like someone else or match someone else. But really I found, like around here, look at this. I’ve got the most random things that are just always set up here. This one is really random, but my amazing assistant who’s here with me, Kendra, gave it to me. It says, “Everyday I’m Brusselin’,” and I really love brussel sprouts and I’ve incorporated in brussel sprouts into my brand. We play with brussel sprouts. If you can play with brussel sprouts, you can play with anything.

I think that is a very true statement.

Do you like brussel sprouts?

I love brussel sprouts. My dad cooks it up with bacon.

So good.

It’s really good. Yeah, but I really think that’s awesome because even the most random things can turn into a business, and it can be fun, and I think that for some people kind of like you said, they don’t know what fun is for themselves and so it can be challenging sometimes to even incorporate it into business if they’re still trying to figure out how they do that for themselves.

Have I ever shared with you the quesadilla of awesome? Do you know what that is?

No.

Do you want to know?

Yes.

Okay. So I have this belief that everyone has something that makes them uniquely awesome, even if it’s just that you make an amazing quesadilla. And you can put anything in a quesadilla. You could put brussel sprouts into it if you wanted. There’s like, vegan quesadillas with no cheese, so there’s so many different options. All you need is two tortillas and the magic inside, but really this still is a sticking point for people so I came up with an acronym that helps them to discover what it is that actually makes them unique, and it’s a practice of writing things that make you an awesome human being, completely separate from your business.

Ooh.

It’s good.

Sounds awesome.

Do you want to know the acronym?

Yes.

Okay, so it’s the word “saave.” It’s five letters because I can’t spell, so I spell wrong on purpose. So it’s S-A-A-V-E, and you want to fill out each of these categories. The first would be your skillsets. What are your skillsets that you would write down there?

I would probably write down having fun.

Totally. Yes. That’s something naturally that comes to you.

And doing business.

Yeah. I’d say even asking questions. Like you’re such a great conversation starter also, which is a superpower really. Okay, and then your activities, so things you naturally love to do. You know, hiking, crocheting, swing dancing, whatever those fun things are. What are yours? Yeah, so what are your activities?

Biking and cooking.

Oh yeah. Awesome, and so if you’re talking about biking and cooking, you’re never going to be what I call a salesy weirdo. You’re never going to be like, so committed to your business. You’re just going to connect as a human being. Right?

Yeah. Yeah, I think that’s awesome.

Okay, the next one is … Sorry?

Oh, I was just saying it’s awesome.

Yeah, so the next one is your appearance, and its things that you love about your appearance, and I know that’s one of the things that we first connected about too was like our purple hair. Your cape is awesome, so it’s like I love big crazy glasses that I wear, like different glasses, but it makes things fun. Right? What other things do you like about your appearance?

I love that I’m really creative because like this, I dyed my hair, and also that I am able to do something that some people aren’t and it’s challenging for some people, but being able to be yourself 100%.

Totally.

And that’s a huge challenge for a lot of people.

Yeah, you’re so good at that.

Thank you.

And that ties into the next one, which is V is for your values, so the more you celebrate your values, the easier it is to be yourself and connect with people. So, what are your values?

I would say that my values would probably be helping people and being able to connect in different places that other people may struggle with, so with that chameleon ability it’s able to tie into that.

So, well. It’s awesome. Okay, and the final E, do you know what it’s for?

No.

It’s kind of out there, but it’s things you like to eat.

I like to eat a lot.

Well that’s good.

Sushi and dark chocolate and are my two little things.

I love sushi so much. What’s your favorite sushi?

Really anything.

Yeah, I’m pretty much with you. I love salmon, but yeah. Amazing, so once you have that, that’s your quesadilla of awesome, and so you take that with you and then you can show up and be yourself.

That’s awesome. I think that’s a great way to put it into fun kind of words as well, and I think that it’s really creative because it’s talking about almost being a kid, because that’s definitely something a kid would understand.

Totally.

And so, it’s really easy and it’s a lot of fun. We do have to take a quick break, but I definitely want to keep on talking about the quesadilla of awesome, but will you let our listeners know where they could go to find out more about you?

Yes. I’m actually putting together a special page just for you that’ll have a few resources there, so if you go to ThePreparedPerformer.com/Neva, super easy. Your name is so easy. It’s good. And yeah, right there I’m going to add a few things about how you can play, how you can show up more in your life and in your business, and how you can do our favorite thing to do which is to stand for joy.

Awesome. That is definitely awesome, so definitely go check her out because she’s just so amazing, and the quesadilla of awesome is pretty cool. We’ve been talking with Molly Mahoney about how to make business fun. We’ll be right back after the break.
