Tonya Dawn Recla:
Hello, everyone, and welcome back to The Science of Superpowers. I am delighted today to be talking with you all about the body. We talk a lot about consciousness, we talk a lot about our thoughts and we talk about this idea that the body is sort of the way the instrument that we experience the world. And today’s conversation is all about experiencing life through our bodies, I believe it’s important to really get perspective on this conversation about what our bodies are, and what they aren’t, we have all different ways of looking at it, different theories, different modalities, different sort of spiritual perspectives and, and ultimately, it’s a very personal journey, what your body means to you is, is your experience, sometimes we use it to identify ourselves, right, some of us have had a love-hate kind of relationship with our bodies throughout our lifetimes. Whatever it is that you’ve been traversing with your body, and our body of work in our space, we view the body as the mechanism through which we get to experience the world. It has amazing extra sensory receptors, and abilities, beyond that which we’re capable of comprehending at this point in time. And a lot of us are having a great time exploring and discovering ourselves.Â
And so today’s guest is an expert in this space in terms of her own walk and what she’s experienced through her journey, with the body with health with healing, all around this concept of sweaty girl, which I got a big old grin across on my face. And this was introduced to me actually when Quist connected Karla. So Karla, why don’t you come on and say hello to everybody? And then we’ll share a little bit more about what it is you do.
Karla Perez:
Hi, Tonya, thank you for having me. I really appreciate this.
Tonya Dawn Recla:
So we’re so excited to have you here. And I love this concept of a sweaty girl. It just makes me giggle because I love anything that’s just even the slightest bit counterculture to be like, maybe we can look at ourselves this way too. And I know, in the girl world at least. You know, when I was growing up, maybe that wasn’t so popular, I’m really enjoying seeing the diverse expressions of existence that we get to see now in some of our younger generations a little bit differently than then maybe when others of us were walking through those phases. And in your journey, in particular, you built on that kind of connection with your body’s strength attribute when you faced challenging times, which we’ll get into here in a little bit. First, I want to ask you our quintessential question here, What are your superpowers? And how do you use them for good?
Karla Perez:
I really love that question. It does make me feel very powerful to just repeat it. And you know what I own it I have to admit, my superpowers are my strength, and my resilience to continue to push through whether that is physically or emotionally or spiritually, you know, my journey has led me to walk through those paths, but initially, it’s been my physical strength, that’s helped me build resilience all around. So my superpowers are that and you know, how I use them is, by coaching I was a breast cancer survivor. And I really want to help people get through their battle with as much ease as possible so I developed a program that shares my tools and experiences and tips that helped me to find my own strength even deeper and to push through. So that’s how I use them. I’m building my digital program to help people who have been impacted by cancer.
Tonya Dawn Recla:
Brilliant, well, thank you so much for that what a fantastic way to illuminate and exemplify turning those strengths into a real gift, a tool, and an asset to utilize in a practical way. And I think a lot of times that we forget that we can do that, right? We have these abilities or we kind of know these things about ourselves and I love how you put that all together.
