Tonya Dawn Recla:

Hello everyone, and welcome to The Science of Superpowers. This usually we’re gonna have a little recording here at the beginning, and then you’re gonna hear the actual episode that we’ve already recorded together, and the reason for that is I have George Lizos here with me. We had this really phenomenal episode together, the vibe was wonderful, the energy was wonderful, and I kept referencing something about my journey with whiteness in comparison to George’s journey in queerness. Is that a good word? How like to describe that George?

George Lizos:

Yes, it’s coming out as gay.

Tonya Dawn Recla:

Yes, essentially. Perfect. And so my avatar and its enthusiasm of connecting with him and this beautiful developmental space and his forging as an individual into this brilliant work that he’s doing now. I reference a few times it came out as being white and made a similar reference of the similarities without properly referencing the back story. Kind of assuming you’ve all been along for the ride with me, and not all of you have, of how my journey and coming into my white racial identity and what that meant in the forging of my character and then opening up for the journey into queerness, the journey into one this right and how we just continued to expand from there, I saw this kindred energy in George’s work and it lit up my soul. I came from my soul forgetting that the avatar didn’t have permission to make that connection without clarifying terms, without allowing George to kind of give his input into it. So I’d sort of skip some steps there in my love and enthusiasm for that connection, and George, so brilliantly, brought it to my attention in the most lovely email and just asked if maybe we could have a conversation and opened the doorway because it didn’t land right and sensitize. You’ll hear it. When you listen to the episode, it comes in and it drops. I noticed it in the process, and I noticed I thought about it even after, and it was a thread that just never got picked up again and how it leads and flows and guides us into our journey together in conversation is so beautiful, and so that’s sort of my take on what occurred there, and I wanted you to hear from my heart of what that dance looked like together and how George and I’ve been able to come back and have this conversation in the most beautiful way, so I’m so lit up George, what could you share onto this.

George Lizos:

Basically, I wanna show a little bit about where I was coming from and what my perspective was, and then how I moved into having a conversation with you. Because I think the time that we’re here and we’ve had a conversation and we resolve this, that’s a lesson in and of itself. To have whatever is coming out in our lives, so basically I hear coming out as white and then immediately what’s going on in my head, coming out is a term connect usually to coming out of oppression, coming out of bullying, triggered my whole journey of being bullied at school and they’re having to wrestle with my identity in my game is eventually coming out from the gate close or coming out from a spiritual closet, for example. And I’m like, what is coming on as white men, like why it’s like I’d say it’s, it’s a racial group, that something you’re born with. It’s something that a lot of privilege. So how is that coming out journey of white connected to the coming out journey of being gay or being from an oppressed kind of group?

So I just left the conversation and I just didn’t know what you think and like what it’s happening here, what did I experience? What does that even mean? I start asking my friends about him, the conversation people are having that I’m missing, like what happened there. And then one of my friends said, you know what, it doesn’t make sense to me, but you need to go strange to her. And I’m like, you know what? That makes a lot of sense. I could have made an assumption, I could have maybe a function like, you know what, this is a racial comment, or this is pulling all this as patronizing and just felt okay with soft righteous in my own belief system and just letting go. But I’m like, this is not how the world changes. How we move forward in the world. The resolution comes with conversation. So I just wrote an email to Tonya. I’m like, you know what, this happened. I did not understand it. I don’t wanna make assumptions, how about we jump on a call and talk about it? We’ve had a call and after Tonya explained to me essentially where she was coming from and her journey of wrestling and discovering her identity, it just made sense.

I feel that when it comes to conversations and when it comes to people, it’s important to always realize that we all have stories and we all perceive our stories in a different ways. It’s important to communicate with that perception when we communicate and when we don’t, come back to the conversation, because that’s how we resolve things, and that’s how we grow and learn together.

Tonya Dawn Recla:

Beautiful God. I am so delighted in this exchange in everything, and so folks take this to heart, it’s a simple step to just say, Hey, can we just talk? And they say, yes. And say, absolutely. If in any way, there’s an over-step. Why did you want to know it? And it’s an easy thing to do when we meet each other in that space, George, thank you for the respect. Thank you for your own curiosity, what a delight to see. Just the willingness to open up to a whole different perspective and paradigm and its messiness and the messiness where it has friction with other paradigms. I believe that that’s what guides us, the richness of the journey, and truly allows us to discover each other in ourselves and each other and sourcing each other. Thank you for this beautiful journey with you.

George Lizos:

Thank you.

Tonya Dawn Recla:

Beautiful. And enjoy the episode everyone. And have conversations in your spaces. Please have the courage to do that. It works wonders and creates miracles. We love you all. Love each other.

Tonya Dawn Recla:

Hello, everyone. And welcome back to The Science of Superpowers. So excited to have you here. And very, very, very excited about this conversation today. We’re talking all about coming out and going in. You know I love my play on words. And we talk a lot about the inside-out game and how we can during certain aspects of the journey, start to see the fragments of ourselves portrayed in others, out in the projection. All of these developmental things get to occur when we choose to play the advanced courses here. And so giving more conversation to what that looks like and how we play with it. And our guest today is really this beautiful light and the space of reminding us that we’re still in the world, as much as we’re not of it, which we get to share in that.

We get to have these experiences. We get to move through the world if we so desire and to carry the expectation that we’re going to be able to maintain our divine connection effortlessly and without any kind of hiccups along the way is probably not setting ourselves off on the right trajectory, to begin with. We can hold that as the vision of where we’re going and prepare ourselves so that we can be strengthened in that walk. And so that’s a lot of what today’s conversation is all about and what the experience of coming into that awareness can look like for some people.

And I’m really excited to introduce you to George Lizos, who is a spiritual teacher and intuitive healer, who’s coming on today to talk about a number of things, mostly the walk and the work and everything else. And in particular, his new book, Protect Your Light. And so be sure to check that out. We’ll make sure you have a link for that. Right now, join me in welcoming George to the show. Welcome and thank you so much for joining us.

George Lizos:

Hello, Tonya. Thank you so much for having me here. I’m so grateful to speak with you.

Tonya Dawn Recla:

Beautiful. Well, we are delighted to have you here and we’re going to jump right in and ask, what are your superpowers and how are you using them for good?

George Lizos:

So I believe that my superpower has to do with just breaking down complicated, spiritual concepts into very small bite-size pieces that people can understand. I’m very good with formulas. I’m very good at breaking things down and communicating something in a way that people get it because I don’t believe that spirituality is complicated. I believe that we sometimes make it complicated and I believe it can be really easy. And it’s just all about taking it one step at a time.

Tonya Dawn Recla:

Beautiful. And so today’s conversation is all about coming out and going in. And it was prompted by my little experience of being in your space today. And I giggled a bit when I saw that you made the comment that realizing you were gay was a part of what sort of open your awareness to this stuff. And my immediate retort inside of my head was, “Well finding out I was white put me on the same trajectory.” And that gave me a little bit of a giggle.

So we’re going to dive into what that means and what that looks like. And is there a connection between this kind of self-identity thing and spiritual identity? Of course, that’s a setup. Of course, there’s a connection. You all know that’s a setup. So we will come back on and we’re going to dive into what are those connections. George, before we do, why don’t we guide people to where they can go to find out more about you?

George Lizos:

Yeah. So if you go to GeorgeLizos.com. That’s my website where you can check everything that I do. On Instagram. I am at George Lizos.
