Work as an Expression of Love
Have you seen someone who used work as an expression of love? In this episode of Spiritual Ecstasy, host Gabriel Cousens M.D talks about work as love in action. In life, words will not always suffice. There are instances where we need to give legs to the things we utter. Work is one of the means to show love in a relationship — to make an effort, to give your energy. Tune in to know how to serve your loved one in a relationship through work as an expression of love and affection.
Dr. Gabriel Cousens:
Welcome to my program, Spiritual Ecstasy. Today, we’ll be discussing in a relationship, the role of work as love. My name is Dr. Gabriel Cousens. People know me as a physician of the soul, a psychiatrist, family therapist, holistic physician, spiritual teacher, yogi, rabbi, native American sun dancer, and a humanitarian for over 48 years, as well as a father and a grandfather of three wonderful grandchildren. I’m also the author of 13 books, the latest being Into The Nothing: A Spiritual Autobiography.
My life focus is helping people wake up to the ecstatic truth of who they are. The central theme in really all my programs is an emerging question that I’ve observed in all my students around the world, which is how we can create joy in every aspect of our lives. It’s my joy to help people reconnect to the joy, passion, and spiritual ecstasy inherent in everyday life. I have weekly programs where I’m teaching many of these things. I have meditation retreats, spiritual fashion retreats, and special programs for mastery of the mind. On Thursdays, I have a program called Alive and Liberated and also another program on spiritual nutrition. There are lots of ways to access me, plus I give talks all over the world.
This is a particularly interesting topic because it’s not something people really think about. Now, I’m not talking about the breadwinner who goes out and makes money. No, it’s way more important than that, but it does include the fact that going out and earning a living to support your family and children is an important aspect. What’s more important to understand is how we create a situation and that everything we’re doing in a relationship, from washing the dishes, to cleaning the house, becomes an act of love. That’s really the theme.
Now, for me, my wonderful what we call native American half side, does certain things and it definitely likes, she does the shopping and we’ve created a beautiful garden. We share the garden work together. But in her mind, she knows certain things that she does. We maybe prepare lunch together or maybe we work in the garden together. Make me feel good. At the same time, in my relationship with her, there are certain things I do that make her feel loved. Now, one of the simple things in the process is beginning to understand the over-dynamics, and overall dynamics in relationships.
Relationships have really seven aspects: It’s the management of time, space, energy, meeting value, love, and spirituality. We have six points and then the seventh is the inner point, how does the love manifest in this situation? That is where we’re going to get to after we take a short break. Again, this is Dr. Gabriel Cousens, the physician of the soul, and our program is Spiritual Ecstasy.
