Relationships as a Spiritual Path
When can we consider a relationship as a Spiritual Path? In this episode of Spiritual Ecstasy, host Gabriel Cousens M.D talks about love that comes from within every individual. Gabriel shares that for us to live in spiritual joy, we must resist nothing— even forgiveness. As we desire to become whole, we too must learn how to forgive and let go of our attachment to the past. Tune in as this conversation gets deeper into the benefits of love in walking down your spiritual path.
Gabriel Cousens:
Relationship as a spiritual path is most profound and most difficult in a certain way. My name is Dr. Gabriel Cousens. I am a spiritual teacher, holistic physician, a family therapist, and am speaking from that point of view, and have been married for 50 years and have two children and three grandchildren. Those are my qualifications for today. And I’m speaking on the program Spiritual Ecstasy, which is really a driving force for all of us. And in a relationship, we are looking towards some deep spiritual ecstasy, and that’s kind of the real kernel. So the whole meaning of a relationship is the search for oneness. Just so you know, I also have a website called drcousins.com or treeoflife.mn.co. And you can reach me there. I have programs on a variety of things. We have spiritual fasts. We have regular programs on Thursdays and during the week covering a variety of topics, including relationships. All this can be found, as I said, on my website.
So that being said, what I really want to talk about here is that one of the most important things is understanding relationships as a spiritual path. And in a relationship, there’s a desire for attraction between men and women, and that is, at the deepest level, longing for wholeness, at the deepest level, and longing for wholeness. And in a relationship, even for only a moment, we can experience the end of duality in that oneness of the relationship. That’s not so easy, but a relationship offers that potentiality. And the deeper we go into our oneness in a relationship, the more we are able to have that beautiful ecstasy that comes with that oneness.
However, the problem with the relationship is if they’re not properly understood, they can create a delusion of potentially thinking we have found the presence in the non-dual state of that oneness. But the truth is, the relationship is not a substitute for being in oneness within yourself. So a relationship doesn’t really bring you to oneness in the way we’re talking about, because oneness is an internal state. But the relationship can amplify and create a situation where you feel the oneness as a starting point.
So merging of the male and female can enhance the oneness of the presence when you understand the purpose of the relationship. And that’s key. And when both partners enter in with that awareness, then we have an opportunity to use a relationship to help us wake up. So this is Dr. Gabriel Cousens. My program is Spiritual Ecstasy, the Super Power Experts framework, and you can reach me at drcousins.com or treeoflife.mn.co. And now we’re going to go for a short intermission.
