As a follow to the last episode of Animal Harmony, The Reclas: Tonya, Justin, and Neva in this episode of Reclamation talk about their experience of how a dying bird came back to life. The family emphasizes the importance and feeling of moving harmoniously around nature to communicate and allow ourselves to have remarkable experiences with its elements. And we’re so excited that you’re joining us here. We are having so much fun with these episodes, and we love that you all are loving them. Thank you so much for the amazing support. You’re sharing these with other families that want to be inspired to live together, do life together, work together,  play together, love together, and choose to be together in a really different way.

It lights us up to know that this is feeding you all. It feeds us. And so thank you so much. We are following up on our last episode of Animal Harmony. We have another animal scenario that we save for its own thing because it was such a remarkable experience. Something that perhaps others have been able to partake in. But for us, it felt really special. It was kind of an intimate experience with nature that the three of us got to share. And so the title of the show is “To Save A Hummingbird”, which I’m sure you know which animal we’re talking about. We’re going to share a bit about what we got to experience.

Justin Recla:

Yes, this was one of those unique moments of what just happened, and is this really happening? Because our backyard is like a  little resort, we’ve got hundreds of birds that come and visit us. And they actually all started coming when the hummingbird showed up.

Tonya Dawn Recla:

Yes, it was the first.

Justin Recla:

It was the first, I mean, we had zero hummingbirds in the backyard, and then you put a hummingbird feeder out.

Tonya Dawn Recla:

No, that’s not how it happened.

Justin Recla:

Well, no, it was sitting on the fence.

Tonya Dawn Recla:

Well, this might sound weird to some of you, but you should expect this from us now. It came to us when I was sitting outside. It messaged me, communicated to me, and got the insight that we needed to put a hummingbird feeder right in the corner of the patio. It was the vision that I saw. And so, we kind of do what we’re told, so we put a hummingbird feeder up. And so then they started coming more frequently. And then that’s what led to this situation. And so what occurred was Justin and I were in the house, and Neva was asleep at the time, and we heard this kind of thunk thing.

Justin Recla:

A little bit like a wham.

Tonya Dawn Recla:

And just kind of were curious about it. And when I went to the door to see what had happened, I opened the door, and a hummingbird lay on the mat. It had run into the wall or the glass door and had fallen. And it was just lying there lifeless. And so I picked it up and it kind of startled me at first because they looked very different when they’re lying down. Because you’re usually used to seeing them. I held it and I really felt like it was passing. Right. It was not moving.

Justin Recla:

It hit the window really hard.

Tonya Dawn Recla:

Yes, and so I held it.

Neva Lee Recla:

The entire left side of its face was like drooping.

Tonya Dawn Recla:

Yes, it was drooping and just done. And so I was just holding on and wanting to love it. And so just giving it light and love and of course, letting it pass. That was what it was going to do.

Justin Recla:

I ran and got Neve up. Because I, “Hey, you got to come to see the hummingbird.”

Tonya Dawn Recla:

Yes. And so, she was a little uncertain.

Neva Lee Recla:

And would it be the first time we’ve had birds that maybe didn’t survive?

Tonya Dawn Recla:

Yes. That’s always tough, but worth it too, to kind of gather around this little hummingbird and be there for that. And as the time progressed, we started seeing a little bit of life, and I was petting it and kind of speaking into it, and it just started to move around a little bit slow. Because it was really shocked and over time it came more and more to life. And so we had this amazing experience of where we were holding this little creature and watching it trusting us because there was nothing else that could do. Right. It was helpless. And so Justin got to hold him.

Justin Recla:

Well, what was neat is as it started coming back around, there was a point that it could have died. It could have easily died. And, we were talking to this little guy and who we’ve named Phoenix. We just call him Nyx for short. We’re holding them, and all of a sudden, it started to show some life. We started petting his back and encouraging him to kind of step up. And then next thing you know, he was sitting on Tonya’s Palm and kind of like, “Okay, what happened here?” And then, it was absolutely amazing;  we all got to hold him.

Tonya Dawn Recla:

Neva was a little uncertain at first.

Neva Lee Recla:

I didn’t really want to. I was unsure if it was going to survive. I’m like, “I’m not about to hold a dying hummingbird. I don’t want it to die when I’m holding it.” because that’s just my stuff. Because like I said, wouldn’t it be the first time this will happen? But it was really cool once I watched it, and it was like, “Okay, it’s not going to just leave us yet.” I gotta see it come back to life, I guess. And it was a really cool experience. And then, it sat on my chair a little bit, and it was perking back up, and it was ready to go back into the world. And it was really awesome to be able to contribute to that.

Tonya Dawn Recla:

Yeah. It was pretty remarkable. And that’s what we shared with her was like, “You know, this may be a really unique opportunity to hold a hummingbird, right?” Where it’s sitting still long enough. And we got to pet it and took a bunch of pictures, of course. What was really cool about it is that he stuck around, and continued to come and visit us. Right. So, we’re going to cut to a quick break, but when we come back, we’re going to share a little bit more about the lessons that we’ve learned from this little guy.  As Justin said, we call him Nyx. You can look that up, also short for Phoenix, but also has a different meaning there and kind of get a glimpse of what it feels like to move around nature in a more harmonious way and allow us to have these remarkable experiences.

Tonya Dawn Recla:

And we’ll talk some more when we come back about what parameters we put in our own life so that we can be present to those experiences.
