What does it mean to live with superpowers? Is it even a real thing? In this episode of Reclamation, the Reclas: Tonya, Justin, and Neva share personal experiences around how they navigate living in a household where three people have superpowers. Justin talks about what it means to have a wife who is a mind reader. Neva talks about her superpower and how it allowed her to kick her Dad’s butt and Tonya shares about the origins of these unique powers, including how it all started. Join Tonya, Justin, and Neva in today’s episode to possibly uncover your unique superpower and learn how to live your best life using it. Â
Justin Recla:
Welcome back to another episode of Reclamation. My name is Justin Recla and I’ve got my two girls with me and we have a confession today.
Neva Lee Recla:
Oh snap.
Justin Recla:
We are living with superpowers.
Neva Lee Recla:
Dun, dun, dun!
Justin Recla:
And yes, that sounds daunting, and it’s not really, and yet at the same time, it is. And so we’re going to discover what that means because this whole concept of superpowers came about some time ago. You’re going to get a chance to read the book because the book is coming out really soon. There’s a link on the page where you can go there to order your copy, and that’s going to go really into the depths of how superpowers came about.
But today, the purpose of this show is to really take a look at what’s it like living with superpowers, because I’m just going to go on record here folks, if you’re married, if you’re a husband, knowing that your wife can read your thoughts and that your daughter can-
Neva Lee Recla:
Kick your butt.
Justin Recla:
Yeah, kick your butt. There have been multiple times that I’ve gotten my arse kicked by my 11-year-old because she’s got superpowers. And you’re probably wondering, God, what’s that like? And at first, it was extremely disruptive, right? I mean, it was like, what the heck is going on, because when you got the message, Tonya, of superpowers was the answer, we weren’t really too sure what that meant, because, okay, well, what does that mean? Well, then she got to experience all of the first through me because they manifested in me. She got to see them in me and therefore she was able to see what it looked like in her, and it opened up a whole new portal of experience and how we live our lives as a family.
So, Tonya, what was that like when these superpowers first started coming online for everybody to see and for us to witness so we can share it with the world? What was that like?
Tonya Dawn Recla:
Well, I think that you’re correct in the sense that the aspects that I was able to see through you were some of the superpowers that I’m not predisposed to. And so as those started coming forward, I wasn’t really sure. I could see them through you and I knew that I needed to be able to study them and kind of hear back from you to help you attune to a place where you could actually self-report in a way that was truthful, not coming from a lower frequency aspect.
And so there was a lot of that body of work in there, and mind you, this is not something that we took on lightly. Justin and I went in with eyes wide open. Our marriage was structured on this concept of walking toward oneness together. We committed to walking each other closer to God, and that meant facing together, whatever came up, whatever happened.
And in the midst of our marriage, these superpower conversations started happening with God and me. And so initially it was so I could understand what some of the challenges had been in my own life because of these abilities that I had. And so people say, oh, did you always know that you had superpowers? And really my flippant response is no, I actually just thought I was really smart because that’s what I was told. Right? You’re really smart, you’re gifted, you’re an honors college, and all of these other things. And it took me a really long time to realize that actually, I wasn’t that smart, I just happened to always be able to tap into universal knowing-ness. And so I look really smart, and there are parameters to that, but not knowing what’s going on, not knowing that I’m in a constant dialogue with God was really confusing to try to match up to this world paradigm.
And so what you’re speaking about was just one of the many, many layers that were happening during this. And so to talk about the experience, and I talk about this in the book, I had no framework. We joke about it, but not really. I had never watched sci-fi or fantasy. I watched The Neverending Story for the first time with you. And that was after your first marriage after Danny and Kayden were born. We had these whole lives. I was a full-fledged adult and had done a lot of things in my life before the idea of anything supernatural outside of what I knew from a religious context ever entered into the conversation. So I was super resistant.
And then of course, what’s that mean for our marriage? We obviously can’t just be husband and wife together. We were already business partners together. We already co-parented together. And now we’re going to discover this body of work together. There were a lot of roles that we held in that, and then you throw Neva into the mix and you’ve got kind of this Petri dish of explosive potential.
Justin Recla:
Well, yeah. And there’ve been moments along the way where that explosive potential stepped in-
Tonya Dawn Recla:
Exploded!
Justin Recla:
Exploded. I mean, that’s really what… That’s the truth of the matter. I mean, folks, we don’t just teach it. We live it. It’s 24/7. And to the point when Neva really started shining it and showing up, we’re like, oh goodness, what do we do with this? But we saw how it changed our lives, how it shaped our lives, how it’s shaped the clients that we were working with and how it worked for them and how it benefited them. And so we just incorporated it into our parenting style.
And rather than allowing the typical quote-unquote “kid experience” to build upon itself and to not deconstruct the experiences that she was having and to help her vent on how she was experiencing things and why she was experiencing things and things that she was seeing and things that she was feeling, things that she just knew that she was different. We incorporated it with you. So Neva, for you, what did the concept of superpowers and how we introduced it to you. How did it first impact you, and where are you with that now? Because I know a lot of your friends don’t have those same experiences, so what’s that like for you?
Neva Lee Recla:
Yeah. I think it’s interesting you said a lot of my friends don’t, because I would actually say that they do. It’s just a much different experience and I get to walk through it with them a lot, and it’s a really cool way to live my life, I guess. But where I first really got involved in superpowers is I think from a really young age. I was always the hippie child. I was the one at family gatherings walking around naked and hiding behind bushes and stuff, picking up rocks and stuff. But I think when I first started really developing “superpowers” and where I started seeing the energy and all that was around the time I was probably four or five. And I remember one night I was up because I was seeing things and all I could see was rainbow dots is how I described it.
And I ran into y’all’s room. And I was like, oh my gosh, what’s happening in the world’s going to explode or something. And you explained to me that that’s just energy. It’s a really different way of, I guess, going about the world. Maybe everybody sees that and just thinks it’s normal. But we talked about how it’s energy, and now I get to use that because I see when it changes. Like how people see auras, I see the energy within people and within the world. So I get to see when it changes when something shifts and now I’m able to use that to help get a better gauge on, I guess, the world.
Justin Recla:
Well, I love that you bring that up because along the way, Tonya and I quickly realized that Neva was our barometer because she could pick up on those things that we weren’t necessarily doing at the moment because we were so preoccupied with whatever role or conversation that we were having. But Neva, if something was off, we knew that something about the environment was off. And so we’re going to dive into this a little bit further down the rabbit hole when we get back from break.
