Join them now as Justin and Lisa talk about how speaking your truth creates freedom and will attract those who you are meant to connect with to you.

Hey everybody, this is Justin Recla, your host, and today, well today we’re going to do something a little bit edgy. My guest today is Lisa Cherney and she is just a fireball. Before I give you a sneak peek as to what we’re talking about here, I just got to put up this disclaimer folks. I’m not going to apologize for anything. What comes out of my mouth, what comes out Lisa’s mouth on the show is just going to be straight hard core facts. And so what are we talking about today? Well, it happens to be the name of her podcast show. It’s also one of my favorite phrases and that is Get Fucking Real.

We’re going to have no holds barred on this. I was honored to be on Lisa’s show just a few weeks ago. As a matter of fact, it’s getting ready to air here coming soon. Super excited for you to share all that. We had a great time and I’m honored to have Lisa on my show to talk about her  12 Business Commandments.

Lisa, thank you for joining us today.

You’re very welcome. I’m so excited. We don’t have to bloop ourselves.

Yeah, right? The power of podcasting, drop the F-bomb whenever you want.

Woo-hoo.

Good stuff. So Lisa, so you’re the host of the podcast shows Get Fucking Real. And I think you and I just clicked from the get go on just kind of our messaging. I mean that’s really the purpose of this show is calling out the bullshit, right? Calling things like it is. And I love what you do. and your 12 Business Commandments. So can you share a little bit about what Fucking Real is about and maybe highlight some of the tenets of your show.

Yes. Get Fucking Real is really acknowledging that the biggest thing that’s in the way for mission driven entrepreneurs is themselves. Right? And so if they can get out of their own way, if we could get up our own way, we’re going to heal this freaking planet. And I just decided that after years of focusing on selling and marketing, brand juicy marketing, conscious marketing, all this stuff. I realized, you know what? I just really need to live in a space where I’m helping people get out of their own way. So GFR is about waking up and claiming where we’re holding ourselves back. I really can’t think of something that’s more important than that.

So our principals, as you call them, we have these things called the 12 GFR Business Commandments. Essentially it was me identifying how after 20 years of mentoring six and seven figure mission-based people, because we know we’re like our own breed here, how they got in their own way and it came to these 12 things.

They became the GFR commandments and then each commandment has a confession question so the podcast is straight talk and confessions from successful soulful entrepreneurs. And this allows you to drop into each of the commandments to say, okay, is this the one that’s fucking me up right now? Is this what’s getting in my way? And so I think we were going to talk about number three.

Yeah. So folks, this is one of my favorites. I think we probably talked about this one on her show a bit too. So what is the third commandment of Get Fucking Real?

The third commandment of Get Fucking Real is don’t worry about being normal, proper, or polite. So juicy. And then here’s the juiciest part is the question, the confession question, which is where am I not speaking my truth? Where am I not speaking my truth? I just want to take an exhale on that. It’s a powerful one because it’s confronting us both in our personal lives, like where are we not speaking our truth to the people that are around us, and then in our business, in our marketing, where are we not on our soapbox? That’s, I think the biggest mistake that I see in my industry is people are not owning their soapbox. They’re hiding from it and therefore, they’re not standing out. So forget about all the marketing gimmicks and finding out the most powerful headline words and the click this and the funnel that, forget that. Just if you get real about what you really want to say about what you do, magic. It’s real magic.

Well, I love the fact that you bring that up because there are so many people that I think go through life wanting to be politically correct, wanting to write, wanting to… Just giving too much care to how they’re going to be perceived. Folks, Lisa is absolutely right. Stand in your gap, speak your truth and watch what unfolds for you. I think there’s a lot of entrepreneurs that get out there and get going and their afraid to say that because it might be too edgy or they’re afraid to do that because of what it might think about their brand. Folks, if the truth, speak your truth. So Lisa, what’s the biggest hiccup that you see? In your GFR community, to that question, what is the most often given responses to where they’re not speaking their truth or even better yet why folks aren’t speaking their truth?

Well, you nailed it. It’s worrying about what people think and when it comes to marketing, people think that if I’ve pissed anybody off, then I’m not going to get the client and so let me water everything down and be as appealing to as many people as possible. Actually it’s quite the opposite of where you want to go. I used to say like a capful of your ideal clients is like a bucket full of money because if you narrow, narrow, narrow, narrow, narrow, narrow to where you’re just hitting people between the eyes that are your people and you’re speaking their language, they’re the ones that want to pay the big bucks that think that you don’t have any competition because no one else is saying that stuff. So it is that they’re worrying about what people think and this is in our personal life too. We’re avoiding conflict. We don’t want to hurt anybody. And then that translates into our marketing and we are not ourselves in our marketing and therefore, we sound like everybody and we’re attracting nobody.

Yeah, that’s kind of how it works, right? When you start talking mid-tier, people start tuning you out because when they can’t figure out really what it is you stand for or what gap you’re standing in, it’s hard for people to understand what it is that you have to offer. And oftentimes, I know that comes from people get clarity. Absolutely. Folks, you got to kind of build up to sell your confidence and speak going to go, how did that land? How did that land? The key to it though is not necessarily the order of the words that you use because marketing, there’s a recipe for saying the right things in certain ways and so forth, but it’s the fact that, are you willing to just even speak your truth? The 12 Business Commandments covers that.

If you’re raising rabbits. I’m going to come up with an analogy here. If you’re out there killing it in this space, but you’re talking about this over here. If it doesn’t match up, you’re not going to attract what you need to attract. Lisa, I love the fact that you came up with the commandments of Get Fucking Real. We see more and more of this. I think it’s very evident on social media, but I think 90%, 98%, maybe even more, 99% of people that are on social media aren’t necessarily speaking their truth. They’re just vomiting an opinion on something that we’re not really… They have no way of having an impact on it. They’re like a lot of people that are speaking their truth would refer to as the sheep. Right? And I know that’s a word that triggers the hell out of people. But that’s really what it is. There are a lot of people out there that are blah, blah, blah, blah, but they’re not really speaking their truth. Right?

So how do you help transition? What does that look like for moving somebody from just vomiting an opinion over something into stepping back and going, okay, is this true? Yes, that’s an opinion, that’s what I think, but speaking it in such a way that it actually has an impact.

Well, here’s a question that I often give people just to have them connect with what am I not saying? And so the question is what would I say to my ideal clients, so the people that I really want to help, if I wasn’t worried about pissing anybody off or turning anyone off or getting in trouble? Like if I was not editing myself at all and I was just letting them have it, I was just speaking to them like the passion that I speak when I talk to my honey about why I want to do what I want to do, what would I be saying? And it’s amazing to give people permission to rant. I give you permission to rant and just let it rip. Don’t worry about what it would sound like in your marketing or anything.

It’s almost like we’re so bottled up and trying to massage things to sound great in our marketing that we don’t get connected with what we really want to say. So I would say just like a journal writing or if you’re a more voice person, record yourself. What would you really want to say to your ideal clients, the people that you want to help most if, you are not worried about turning anyone off? You were just finally going to talk straight. What would you say? And it is super illuminating the things that come out of people’s mouths. And I’ve actually had my clients… I have a membership, a really easy entry membership called the GFR Squad (training in the 12 Business Commandments), and this was a challenge that I gave them. It was so funny just to see their rants. And then it was like they would get embarrassed or whatever and then I would say, “Oh my God, that’s such good stuff. And you could take this and you could do this with it and you could do this with it.” They got to see that people love them anyway.

Those folks right there, the people that matter, won’t give a shit. The people that care won’t give a shit, right? What they care about is connecting in with that authenticity. We’re going to dive down this hole a little bit further here when we get back from break, but Lisa before we go, you mentioned your membership. Where can people go find more information about you?

So grab your copy of the commandments, that’s step one, gfr.life/12c, as in 12 Business Commandments, Grab your commandments. See which one is the one that hits you in the eyes right now and get writing. It’s not about doing all 12. Just find out what’s the one that for you, that’s up for you right now? Step one.
