Welcome to Incorporating SuperPowers. Folks, you’re in for a treat today because I have one of my very dearest friends from the business world, Jill Lublin, joining us today. And today we are going to talk about pandemic proof publicity. I know a lot of you are out there going, “How do I get my company out there?” There’s so much craziness going on and you don’t necessarily want to be just dealing with social media and being on social media. But there’s other ways to do this. But we’re going to explore all of that today with Jill and how you can get publicity and pandemic proof that so should something like this ever happen again, should it’s happening now, right? How do you do it now? What does that look like? Jill is one of the sweetest endearing individuals I know. She’s been in the book space for quite some time, in the publicity space for quite some time. She’s one of the people behind the original concept of guerrilla marketing. And this right here folks, I’m super excited because pandemic proofing publicity, it’s important. Jill, good to see you my friend.

This is good stuff. So talk to me. We were talking a little bit about how you build a pandemic proof business. We build a pandemic proof business and there are a lot of people trying to pivot around this. And I, for one, don’t believe you necessarily have to completely like, “Well, I’m selling widgets and now I’m going to go sell gadgets.” You don’t necessarily have to make that kind of pivot. While these things do present those opportunities, you don’t necessarily have to give up one for the other. So for those that are building, what does that pandemic proofing of publicity look like for those that are like, “No, I’m good here. I still want to do this.” How do they leverage something like this?
So just like we’re pivoting our business, you also want to pivot your message. You want to be relevant for the moment. So for instance, my black clients we’re talking about the issues of Black Lives Matter, right? Even though we may have been talking about something totally different. One of my clients, she’s a business consultant and we were on a call and she goes, “You know, I have to do math with my kid. I don’t know how to do math. I don’t know how to teach math. I know how to be a business consultant.” I thought well, now that’s the story. That’s a super cool story. Like how do you raise kids and be a business consultant or be in business? How do you combine these two?
My parenting coach, we’re talking about how to raise kids without tearing your hair out while you educate them. Because this isn’t something most parents have dealt with before. So I want you to take a look at your message and how you can put your message into the context of what’s going on right now so that you are relevant right now. Fabulous, right? And if for some reason that doesn’t quite gel, can’t quite rock that, good. Then look ahead three, six, nine months. Let’s get yourself planned and planted for growing because publicity is a gardening process. You must be continuously planting seeds so you can grow and connect.
I absolutely love that. Folks,If you can’t make what you do right now relevant, keep serving the clients that you serve. Keep managing them and start planning for what comes next. Look beyond. I’m going to hate to say it, but look beyond November 3rd and what happens after November 3rd. Because a lot of what we’re seeing in the chaos in the world or the perception, I’m going to say, of chaos in the world is going to shift. It always does. It’s constantly moving into some flow and your business has to be the same. So Jill, I want to dive down this rabbit hole a little bit further.
