Everybody, Justin Recla with another episode of Incorporating SuperPowers. Where we interview people that are doing good in the world, people that are challenging the status quo, people who have been calling, who’ve had their awakening, who know that there’s a better way of doing business. Our guest today is somebody that’s been doing that for the last 20 years, actually helping people. My guest today is Jane Bishop. We’re going to be talking about growing forward and what that looks like for you as a business owner. Jane, welcome to the show.

Oh, thanks Justin. I’m excited to be here. Thank you for the honor to have this conversation with you. Growing Forward

Well, these are the kinds of conversations that I really enjoy. Because these are the conversations that not everybody’s willing to stop and have. Growing Forward

Yes.

I think you’d probably agree with me, that if more people stopped and had this kind of conversation, this level of conversation in the realm of which you work. I’m very familiar with them … do the similar type of work. Is that if more people did that, they would find that they would actually get farther faster. Talk to me about growing forward.

Well, Justin, I agree with you wholeheartedly. If we could just get more people to stop. I think the barrier with a lot of people is, they think stop means they’re not accomplishing anything. Actually, how we grow forward is we stop where we are. We take an assessment and become very aware of our surroundings, where we are, how we can connect, how we can align. And then move forward. It doesn’t have to be a large quantity of time to stop. It could be a 60 second stop. It could be an hour stop. But it’s the stopping that’s key to growing forward.

I like to think of growing forward is closing that gap between where you want to be. And continued to be the best you can be and where you are. And what-

I absolutely love that. In my terminology, it would be, be where you’re at.

Yes.

Be solid in where you’re at. And understand that what you’re working on, what you’re taking steps towards. Can only happen if you’re solid with where you’re at.

Yes. There’s so much … In our current culture, I love technology and I love all the things that are at our fingertips. The downside of that can be though is when that’s all we’re experiencing. Just taking it, taking it, taking it. And not allowing time, again, stop and process and be present. Where you are, be mindful. It makes a huge difference. Yes, it makes a huge difference.

Huge difference. Because you stop and realize that oftentimes that you and your mind are already 15 steps ahead. Because you’re planning out for what’s to come. But you’re not being where you’re at in the moment now. Then it creates this vicious cycle of you actually don’t get anything done.

Yes. Two things that come to mind. One, I love to … when I meet people, especially in gatherings, in groups or in general, anywhere. I love to ask them, what’s a win from your day-to-day that I can celebrate with you? Nine times out of 10, actually 9.9 times out of 10. I get this frozen look. Because they haven’t given themselves time to reflect, “Oh well, what is a win?” Sometimes they’ll go ahead and think of something and then we’ll celebrate together. In fact, I’ve got one client now that she goes home to her husband and she’s been talking with him about it. So now they ask each other, at the end of the day, what’s your win for the day? It’s kind of a multiply, in that-

That right there is so valuable, folks. Listen to what Jane’s saying here. Is that if you’re so busy caught up in your tasks, or your work, or your job, or whatnot. And you haven’t stopped to reflect upon the little things, and maybe it’s a big thing, who knows? But if you don’t take to time to stop to reflect and hold yourself in appreciation for that experience. And in gratitude for the fact that it happened. The likelihood of it happening more frequently decreases. Because oftentimes … what Jane’s talking about here folks, is that most people are not staying present. They’re too focused on the future or more often than not, worried about what happened more than 10 seconds ago and they’re living in the past. Growing Forward

The second thing that came to mind flows right in with that, Justin. Again, a recent client we worked in … I have this technique that I call, 10 minute brain breaks. She was feeling overwhelmed. Through a series of sessions, she finally got that when she has a full schedule and we use full, not busy. But a full day between each segment or between each task. She took 10 minute brain breaks. The very next session after she had been practicing that for a week. These were her exact words, “Jane, it has allowed me to do more. And do it more effectively.” While I’m on the other side of the phone going, “Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner.” That’s huge.

It’s just getting to that place of being able to pause and reflect. People that are trying to bridge the gap between leaving employment and stepping into entrepreneurship. Or whether they’re just full-fledged business owners and they’ve been at it long enough now. Their success will only get them so far. Their aptitude will only get them so far.

Yes, yes.

If we don’t stop and refresh, unplug, and unwind. The route, the day even … One, first and foremost, I want to challenge you folks to this. Is if that’s you and you’re an entrepreneur, you’re doing it wrong.

Yes.

Because we all became entrepreneurs and business owners to free up our own time. If anything, what takes away from Jane here is to stop at least 10 minutes between tasks. Let your brain reset, get refreshed, reflect upon what you just accomplished, whatever it might be. These are huge, huge tips that Jane’s dumping on you here. That if you’d taken into effect will change your life. Growing Forward

This is super fun. I want to dive down this rabbit hole a little bit more.
