Emerging Leaders
Is the business world ready to witness the new set of emerging leaders? What things should we change for them to have a space in the industry? In this episode of Incorporating Superpowers, host Justin Recla and guest Sabine Gedeon revolve their conversation around the old paradigms of business leadership. Sabine is an executive coach working with the next batch of executives who want to break away from the traditional leadership mold. Tune in to know what the new face of leadership must become for the business world to be ready to fully welcome emerging leaders.
Justin Recla:
Welcome back to Incorporating SuperPowers. And folks, we’re going to get down to it today because we’re going to be talking about emerging leaders. We’re going to be talking about the fact that it’s time for a change. And I know a lot of you out there are doing good work in the world. A lot of you are out there playing your roles and doing your parts. A lot of you who have been part of the show are doing business better. And my guest today is doing exactly the same. My guest today is Sabine Gedeon she’s an Executive Coach, a speaker and she’s also the author of a best-selling book called Transformed: The Journey to Becoming. Sabine, I just got to say, you speak our language. You are definitely in the frequency of doing things differently and I’m excited to see what comes forth in this conversation.
Sabine Gedeon:
Awesome. Thank you for that. And I’m so excited to be here Justin, and really, really excited for this discussion as well.
Justin Recla:
And so Sabine, emerging leadership, the concept into today’s world is new emerging techniques, new technology, whatever it might be, we see a lot of people on the fringes of leadership that are doing things differently that are really effective. And then when you look back at the old constructs of leadership, the old constructs of business and I’m just going to put it out there, the old constructs of business leadership are old white men. And I’m just going to call it like it is. I mean, that’s essentially what it is. These are conversations that we have in our household all the time. And folks, if you’re not too certain where SuperPower Experts stand on these topics, go take a look at some of the recent articles that Tony has put out. But I mean, that’s the old construct, old white men. And I hate to say it, but look where it’s gotten us. Emerging leadership, what’s your take, what’s your perspective on this new construct of leadership?
Sabine Gedeon:
That’s a really great question, an amazing observation, and a great way to start off. And so for years we’ve had, and don’t get me wrong, these gentlemen have earned their flowers, if you will, in terms of what they did for that generation. Like the Peter Druckers, even today Ken Blanchard and to an extent John Maxwell too. They are like the pioneers, the gurus, whatever you want to call them, in the leadership space, and rightfully so. But I do think that over a period of time, this narrative of what it means to be a leader has become so, I don’t know, structured and systematized, if you will, versus really what I’m trying to do. And what I feel called and led by God to do in this season is really to dismantle that, in the sense that there is not an elite force of humanity that has been assigned the ability to lead. But rather than as creatures, as divine creatures that God has created, I’m a believer, that God has created we all have innate leadership ability within us.
It is part of our DNA. It is part of our attributes just as creativity and love and everything else are. And so dismantling that belief that only certain people can rise up as leaders or certain people can step up in that leadership space to say, “No, actually we all possess it.” And by awakening that truth in individuals that we are all leaders, that would create the space for people to speak and to take responsibility and accountability for the areas that they have been given territory, dominion, whatever you want to call it, to have influence.
Justin Recla:
I love that.
Sabine Gedeon:
In our society, there’s too much of relying on other people to be the answers for us. And we’ve seen that has not worked out very well. And so it’s about empowering humanity, empowering our society to be like, wait a minute, we don’t need to rely on other people for the answers, we have the answers within us. And not only that, we have a specific sphere that we are each assigned that we must take accountability and responsibility over.
Justin Recla:
So, folks, you can see how Sabine is one of the tribes. She is part of the crew. She’s gotten the calling and she’s out there answering it. This is amazing. Everything you’re talking about in our vernacular, in my vernacular, is the concept of self dominion. The concept of self dominion in every aspect of our lives includes the leaders that we elect, right? Taking personal responsibility for the fact that if we elect somebody, we have a role in that we have to take personal responsibility for whatever the good or bad that comes from that.
Sabine Gedeon:
Absolutely.
Justin Recla:
Same thing for working in businesses. If you’re working for a company where the leadership is doing something that you don’t necessarily agree with, I’m going to pick on the media. If you worked for the media today, and you know you’re doing something that’s not completely morally right or is not the full truth, you’re contributing to part of the problem. And so there’s this self dominion piece. I love the fact that you’ve picked up on that and identified it. Folks, if you’re paying attention, she’s a woman. She brought God into the conversation and guess what the old white men were doing, they left the big, important piece out.
Again to their credit, they got us to where they are, but it’s now time for us to evolve with my belief, at least here at SuperPower Experts everything that you stand for, is that the only way for us to do that is to step into a relationship with spirit and divine to be guided by something bigger than our own egos. Sabine, this is an amazing conversation. We’re going to get you down this rabbit hole even further on the back in, but where can our listeners go to find more information about you so they can connect with you and see what you’re doing?
Sabine Gedeon:
Absolutely and thank you for that. My website is sabinegedeon.com in one word. There you’ll be able to see the services that I provide both for individuals and for organizations who are really, really serious about stepping into this new, I guess, emergence of leadership and ownership and accountability and like you said, a dominion.
Justin Recla:
Fantastic folks. We are talking about emerging leaders today on Incorporating Superpowers. Stay with this. When we get back, we’re going to talk about this even further as to what this looks like. And if you’re a leader or you have an influence on other leaders, what you can do to start making a bigger impact in the world today. Stay tuned, we’ll be right back.
