- Empathy is the ability to tune in to the emotional energy of a person, place or animal.
- Empathy tunes into emotional energy but often is experienced as tapping into feelings and emotions.
- Empathy is experienced through the solar plexus, not the heart.
- Empathy is different from emotional intuition.
The Superpower of Empathy
Did you know that empathy is one of many predisposed super powers some people possess? While anyone can train themselves to hone empathy as a super power, some people are predisposed to it. This means that they have a specific blueprint or design that makes them both susceptible to and able to harness particular abilities.
All super powers first start off as challenges. Just like Spider-Man got bit by a spider and Bruce Banner got caught in a gamma radiation blast, we all experience the challenge, or shadow aspects, of super powers before we can use them with any degree of reliability.
Managing the Challenge of Empathy
Until empaths realize they have this natural ability, they can be overwhelmed by emotions and find it challenging to make sense of them. It’s virtually impossible for empaths to discern their emotions from the emotion energy onslaught from others until they learn to master empathy.
Possible Signs You Might be Predisposed to Empathy
- You have difficulty maintaining emotional balance in groups or large crowds.
- You bounce between no emotions and tons of emotions.
- You know how someone else feels without them telling you.
- You know when others get triggered by fear without them telling you.
- Others accuse you of being devoid of emotion.
Using Empathy as a Super Power
As with all super powers, empathy can be an amazing tool IF you know what it is and what it isn’t. Most people confuse empathy with emotional intelligence and it can be challenging to know the difference. Empaths tend to be devoid of their own, self-generated, present-moment energy. What that means is if an empath feels emotion strongly, it usually comes from an outside source or is an indicator of stored emotional energy rising up to be integrated. This can be used as an amazing superpower both for personal growth and assisting others.
A big misconception of empathy is that you get to know everyone’s secrets. It doesn’t really work like that. Just like thought energy, emotional energy isn’t the same as knowingness and tends to be a lower frequency energy. So while an aspect of someone or something may be emitting emotional energy, it doesn’t necessarily mean you can tell what’s really going on with them. It’s rather complex until and not real reliable or helpful until empaths master their superpowers.
If you think you might be predisposed to empathy and you want to try it out, first make sure you tune into your emotional energy and understand what belongs to someone/something outside of you. This can be tricky because the only real way to gauge it is to attune yourself to the subtle differences in frequency. With practice this is easy to master. Once you know how to make the distinction, then you’re ready to test run your abilities.
Master Empathy
- When you feel a wave of emotional energy first try asking, “Is this mine?” If you feel the energy start to dissipate, that’s a good indicator it’s coming from something outside of you. If it doesn’t dissipate right away, don’t automatically assume it’s yours. This can take time and practice to master.
- Cleanse your empathic receptors: Imagine your solar plexus open and expansive. Allow energy to move through and challenge yourself to feel the flow.
- Go to a public place like a restaurant or coffee shop. Pick someone to focus on and imagine connecting your solar plexus to theirs. An easy subject in the beginning is to focus on someone who appears animated in conversation or emphatic about something. See if you can sense the underlying emotional energy being emitted. Don’t let your mind intrude with clues from their facial expressions or body language. Keep this between you and your emotional energy system. See if you can really feel their emotional energy. Again, this takes practice.
