Blessings, soul family. This is Jewels with Cosmic Consciousness, coding the new human for the new earth. I am over the moon excited, and I love how I say that because we’re really going to go cosmic today with Dr. Stephanie Red Feather. She is a Reverend and is a divine feminine change agent and champion of empath and award-winning author of the number one international bestseller, The Evolutionary Empath. Her passion is to help fellow sensitive souls break out of the energetic jail and fully embrace their soul’s evolution and divine expression, as co-creators of the new earth consciousness.
As a shamanic minister, workshop facilitator, and prolific creator of spiritual tools, Stephanie has helped thousands to connect to their sacred self and heal their human wounds. Another really amazing fact about Stephanie Red Feather is that she was actually an Air Force officer. So she went from Air Force officer, to creating this beautiful book to support empaths out there. And I know a lot of you listening can relate to what it is to be an empath. Welcome to the show, Stephanie.
Thank you so much.
So exciting to be here. So we’re going to talk about what is an empath. So why don’t you go ahead and tell us a little bit about what an empath is, to you.
Yeah, absolutely. And let me start by saying, when I sat down to write this book, my spirit guides gave me only one directive, and that was to create a definition. So, of course, no pressure because the term empath has been in spiritual and consciousness circles for many decades. In general, most people know what it means. A concise working definition is basically a highly sensitive person, which is the name of a book by Elaine Aron, who wrote a book on that subject in the 90s, which I think of as the precursor to the empath revolution, if you will.Â
So, in my book, I actually get very granular. I spend two chapters talking about what it is to be an empath, from many different perspectives, but what I find one of the easiest and neediest things to share, in an interview, that people can really connect with, are what I call the five distinct qualities of an empath. And so I’d like to share those if that’s all right.
Oh, please do.
Okay. And so the first quality is our ability to merge with and absorb the energy of other beings. And so that’s animals, not just people, anything with life force. And this stems from a very open personal energy field. So this is the quality that makes it easy for us to unconsciously take on other people’s emotions and problems and think that they are our own, and also can cause us to struggle with boundaries if we don’t know that we have this quality.
The second quality is that we have a very highly sensitive nervous system. And that’s kind of a duh. Well, nervous systems are supposed to be sensitive, but for empaths it’s like we got the volume dial goes up to 200 instead of 100. And so it makes us very prone to overwhelm and overstimulation. And so, for empaths, extra vigilant self care is absolutely a requirement.
The third quality is the great sensitivity that we have to energies around us, as well as an ability to perceive or access subtle information stored in the energy field of all types of life forms.
And so this is the quality that predisposes us to being able to access the Akashic records or speak to the dead or have paranormal experiences or be medical intuitives or animal communicators or astral traveling and playing in the subtle realms of energy.
The fourth quality is the premium that we place on peace and harmony. And that is in relationships. That’s in our environment. It’s in our own energy field. And so if we’re not careful, when we’re in our unconscious years of being an empath, we can tend to be a doormat. We let everybody else’s opinions override ours. We acquiesce to what everybody else wants because we want to keep the peace.
The final quality is our big, open hearts and a desire to serve others. And so this can make us inclined towards careers focused on service. So a huge number of people in my tribe are massage therapists and energy healers and nurses and healthcare workers and therapists. But, like you shared, I was in the Air Force for 10 years. So clearly there are empaths that are bankers and lawyers and factory workers and military members and engineers. But usually they’re in their unconscious years because a lot of times those environments can be so harsh that when they awaken to their sensitivities, there’s usually a change of career or a change of something that goes along with it. And with this desire to serve others, we have to be careful because it can make us put everybody else first on the list and put ourselves last.
And I do want to qualify these five qualities because if you’re out there listening and you’re going, well, I resonate with three of these, but the other two, I’m not so sure. Does that mean I’m not an empath? The answer is no. There is no absolute number of boxes you have to check that makes you an empath or disqualifies you. I trust your intuition, as you listen to these qualities, because they all fall on a sliding scale.
The first thing that came to me was, if you’re asking if you’re an empath, you probably are.
Yeah. Yeah.
Pretty sure if you’re not one, you’re probably not asking that question. So I love that. And that was just so beautifully said. We’re going to go to a really quick break. And then, when we come back, I want to hear about what your awakening was like, and how you kind of shifted from being in the Air Force, as a sensitive, and then creating this beautiful work to support others. I know it’s so needed. There’s so many empaths out there that are just so lost and overwhelmed because it’s overwhelming being empathic, especially if you don’t know how to navigate it. So, before we go to break though, Stephanie, why don’t you let us know, if somebody wants to find out more about you, get your book, do some work with you, how would they find you?
Absolutely. The name of my business, my sacred space and shingle in the world, is called Blue Star Temple. So if you go to bluestartemple.org, you can find me.
