Listen in and discover how small changes can help you generate the momentum to keep going and how you can use consciousness to heal your relationship with food.

Welcome, soul family, to Cosmic Consciousness, Coding the New Human for the New Earth. I am your host, Jewels Arnes and I’m so excited to introduce my guest today, Kevin Bursiaga. Kevin dealt with multiple eating disorders in his twenties before he developed his own method to overcome them. Now he teaches this method, the empowered eating system and consciously healing from eating disorders to students, young professionals, athletes and men who help them eat right anytime, anywhere. Kevin is a physical therapist and a YouTuber. He is also a son and a brother. In his free time, he likes to work out, read, learn, make videos and travel.

Welcome to the show Kevin. So happy to have you.
Thank you, Jewels. Good to be here.
So we’re going to talk today about eating disorders and how to overcome an eating disorder. This is such a powerful topic and just saying that out loud just literally gave me chills. So I know people are going to really connect to your story, but before we dive in, why don’t you tell us what an eating disorder is?
There are three main ones as described in the DSM. So you have anorexia nervosa, you have bulimia nervosa, and then you have binge eating disorder. And in fact, they only added binge eating disorder to the latest DSM in 2014. For many years it was not considered and eating disorder. But it’s one of those things where you know it when you see it, but there’s no strict definition of what it is. I would say it is eating in a way where you feel like you don’t have control. So if you’re a binge eater, you feel like you’ve lost control over what you eat. Or if you’re anorexic, it’s too much control over what you eat. But it’s characterized by this unhealthy fixation and obsession with eating, usually related to a fear of gaining weight. And there’s also this preoccupation with eating. So I think there are just several characteristics that describe an eating disorder and that’s usually when we know that somebody has one.
Perfect. Yeah. And I’m just going to let everybody know that Kevin has had an eating disorder, but I actually have, as well, so we have that in common. And it really is a disease of the mind. And we’re going to talk more about that here in a little bit. But before that, I want to know, because you say in your bio that you created a method to help you get over this. So it wasn’t something that you were taught, it was something that you followed your intuition, you listened to what you needed. So are you saying that it is possible to overcome an eating disorder on your own and you have these step-by-step methods?
I think anybody is capable of overcoming it. I overcame it on my own, but it took me 10 years. So that’s a long time. And there’s a faster way to do it. For the longest time I thought what I needed was some specific diet or some change in my environment or better living conditions or some external force. When I realized that the answer was always up here.
Hmm. Okay. So when he said that, he pointed to his head. You guys can’t see the video, but Kevin’s saying that how we do that is by changing what’s in our thoughts. That’s so beautiful. So why don’t you just give us one little step that people can kind of think about before we go on break here, Kevin.
I always tell my clients when they first start working with me it takes inventory. What are you doing right and what is it that you want to change? And then, starting today, make one of those small changes so that you can start generating the momentum.

Beautiful. So let’s all take that in. Just really take that in while we take a break. But before we go on break, Kevin, if people want to find you and learn more about you, where would they go?

Optimize Your Life!

Well, they can go to kevinbursiaga.com/empowered eating. I also have a YouTube channel that is my name, Kevin Bursiaga.
Beautiful. Oh my gosh. Thank you so much, Kevin. And we’re just going to take a really quick break from talking about consciously healing from eating disorders. When we come back, we’re going to learn about your story and a little bit more about the method that you used or discovered to overcome your eating disorder. We’ll be right back.
