Join Wendy and Renee in today’s episode to hear how Renee creates a clear, joy filled future for her life.
Welcome to A Glimpse Inside. I’m Wendy Perrotti. You’re listening to Episode Three of our four part series, Finding Your Way.
Renee was with us last week and we talked about feeling lost, not really knowing what she wants and longing for direction. She’s had a bit of time to process and today she’s back with us to talk about creating a clear vision. Renee, welcome back.
Hi Wendy. Thank you.
It was your birthday the last time we talked.
It was.
Got to enjoy the day?
I did. I had a wonderful day. Thank you.
I’m happy to hear it.
So we left you with some homework and before we started recording, you said that it was difficult. Why don’t you take a couple of minutes to sort of fill us in on the homework and the process and what came up for you?
So, you set three questions for me. They were what I love about my life, what I would change about my life and what a successful life should look like to me.
So as is my want, I got out one of my little notebooks and I wrote those questions down and I carried it around with me for the week. One of the things you said was from the little, from the most mundane to, whatever struck me as what I like about my life and it was really hard. I sat staring at those questions. It was really, really hard. It made me cry because I felt like I couldn’t articulate. Some of the things were so mundane. Some of them were so huge. And I don’t’ know. It was a great exercise for me.
I’m glad to hear it. You know, it’s interesting. So we think that those things are clear. If I were to just ask anybody, walking down the street, do you know what you love about your life? Do you know what you’d want to change about your life? Do you know what success means to you or what it should? What you think it should be? Everybody would say, “Yeah, of course. I know that.” Like, we think we know that about ourselves, but having to articulate it, we realize that it’s very muddy right inside of our skull.
So muddy.
It gets muddy in there. So will you share with us some of the things that you came up with?
Sure. So some of the things that I love about my life when I was really trying to drill down into what is it that makes me happy or makes me smile day-to-day? I love that I have the ability to make my own schedule in my life.
It’s really, really wonderful. I like hanging out with my husband. I like when he comes home and we just hang out for a while, which is sort of our routine. I love having different groups of friends and that I call on a lot, that I’ve been in touch with during this pandemic.
I love the satisfaction when I do something like clean. This sounds so silly but organize a room and it’s organized and it’s purged and it’s wonderful and clean. I love riding my bicycle. I love reading a good book. I enjoy that about my life. I love that my husband makes no demands on me. I know that a lot of people have. I’m very lucky and very privileged in this regard and I understand it. I don’t have to have a job necessarily. Of course extra income would always be great, but my husband has always had the idea that I share that we have enough and that striving for the sake of striving is not necessarily a good thing. So I’m lucky in that there’s no demands on me to sort of, I must earn an income.
I love to spend time with my kids. I love the pandemic Caton games with my kids over Zoom. I love that my mattress, when I go to sleep at night, is really comfy and squishy and it just makes me go, “Ah.” I love my library, my local library. I love that I have a tub in my house and I can soak. I mean, these really are the most mundane and crazy things.
And so important. So, you’re on the right track sister.
Yeah. I love that my children are happy. I love that I can contact my children at any time. It’s not comparative, but when I call my children, they answer the phone. They talk to me. We have conversations and I know sometimes some of my friends are struggling with that and I feel so blessed that my kids pick up the phone and we can have a conversation sometimes about deep things, sometimes about silly things, or we sort of like joke with each other. And I love that we have a family, we have a little family group chat that every day, somebody posts something inane on there. I don’t know. That’s, that’s what I love.
I love frothing the milk on my coffee each morning. I love my evening beach walk. Those are the things I love about my life.
That’s beautiful.
