What does it take to be unique and why do most people shy away from it? In this episode of Wisdom of the Ages, host Ayn Cates Sullivan talks about daring to be your wild, unique self. It takes a lot of courage to be unique in a world that wants us to conform, but when we awaken spiritually, we realize that we are none of the labels we were told to be. Ayn also shares the ability to know the truth inside of you as she strongly believes that our truths can set us free. Join Ayn in this episode to learn how to look with the eyes of your soul by not allowing anyone to take the wilderness out of you.
This is Ayn Cates Sullivan, host of Wisdom of the Ages. This week, I want to offer you a monologue about the unique self, the wild self, the part of you that is already free. You see, it takes a lot of courage to be unique in a world that wants us to conform. From the time we’re born, we’re told what our name is, what our gender is, if we’re attractive, or we’re not, we’re smart or we’re not, who our parents are, what city and country we live in, what religion we belong to or we don’t belong to, what our socioeconomic status is, what we can expect or not expect of our lives.
But you know what? When we awaken spiritually, we realize that we are none of these labels. We are much, much more vast than any label that might ever be placed on us. At our core essence, we have superpowers. No, we are not limited or small. That’s a lie. You see, who we are is much closer to a mini faceted diamond spinning through space. As I wrote in my book of poetry, The Windhorse, “That mysterious blackness is why I prefer to step on one star after another.” Who knows ultimately why spiritual awakening begins. Maybe it’s a time and the soul is ripe, or maybe there has been a betrayal that has broken your heart, or maybe something has happened in your life that is too great to heal and you simply break.
That self that you thought of like you, shatters into thousands of pieces’ people. But in a way that’s also true because there are these thousands of facets, these mini, mini different pieces. And then weeping, as we realize that those thousands of pieces are actually part of a colorful kaleidoscope, and that who we are is more like a snowflake made of jewels. I mean, maybe we live in a society that has gone a bit mad, and you might think it’s hard to tell right from wrong, good from evil, tricksters from the real deal. But you know what? The ability to know the truth is inside of you. It’s within you.
If you retain sovereignty over your body, and your mind, you know the truths. And yes, the truth can set you free. You see, in a way spiritual awakening is like a Russian doll. There is the outer layer that interfaces with the planet. And then there’s another layer that interfaces with our culture, and then another doll interfaces with the family dynamic, and within that, that is this false self, this ego that we have been told we are. And then suddenly, all those layers fall away, we spontaneously break open, and we find the true self. The true self, the true, right? This diamond, this diamond.
Up until this point, our culture has not taught us how to break free. It has taught us how to conform, but that’s the old paradigm. Something new is happening. In the past, those that spoke about spiritual enlightenment or liberation were those who lived in ashrams or monasteries, they kept it quiet. But now we’re in a new era. We’re stepping into a new time that’s not about the vision, but about the loving embrace of unity consciousness.
If you were interested in being authentically you, and speaking, dancing, painting, expressing your own way, let’s delve deeper and discover who we truly are. And then you can see if you dare to embrace the unique self, the truth of who you are. I’m going to pause for an ad break. This is important too because I like to remind people that on SuperPower Experts, there is a whole group of us talking about spiritual awakening. About the awakening that’s going on, on the planet right now, and that we do, yes, we do have superpowers.
Each week on Wisdom of the Ages, I inquire with authors, leaders, and spiritual teachers about the nature of consciousness. And I also share, like today, my own monologues on spiritual awakening. If you’re as fascinated as I am by the process of spiritual awakening and liberation, then visit superpowerexperts.com/wisdom-of-the-ages. Stay tuned, we’ll be right back. And when we’re back, we’re going to talk about the unique and wild self.
