How can your sanity be connected to your spiritual awakening? In this episode of Wisdom of the Ages, host Ayn Cates Sullivan performs a monologue to tell us more about how your sanity is connected to your spiritual awakening.. Ayn also talks about how sanity and rationality are starting to become interchangeable and that it is high time that we redefine sanity as a unified mind, body, and soul. Ayn explains that when we take full responsibility for our lives, claim sovereignty, and tend to our body and minds we are consciously evolving, which is what we want to be doing. Join Ayn in today’s episode to learn how you can bring sanity in yourself by taking full responsibility for your life.
Wholehearted welcome, love and blessings. This is Ayn Cates Sullivan, host of Wisdom of the Ages. So each week I interview authors, spiritual teachers and leaders who are making a positive difference in the world, and now I’m also offering monologues on spiritual awakening. I think this is really important right now. It seems that we’re going through a collective awakening, and it’s good to discuss these things and listen to stories about people who have been through things that you might also be experiencing. So I’ve done quite a few episodes now and you can go and find them on wisdomoftheages.superpowerexperts.com.
So today, I would like to offer you a monologue on sanity and what that means. Maybe a new definition of sanity. I really believe that sanity is how we reside in a unified body, mind, soul, and spirit, or as a result of a unified body, mind, soul and spirit.
So apparently, in the collective dream we’re going through, we were emerging out. And there is actually a way, in Tibetan philosophy and practice, that you can actually learn to dream consciously. So in a way, that might be what a lot of us are starting to do now is awaken in the dream. So one thing that can happen in the awakening process is that we can think we’re going crazy, and this is fairly normal because all of a sudden reality is changing. And so you might have thought of yourself as Bob one day, who works at 7-11, and then the next day something else is really going on.
So it’s OK. It’s actually part of spiritual awakening. So strong emotions, limiting beliefs can surface, and they do that so they can be cleared and updated. Because as your frequency raises, you can’t hang out in negative emotion anymore. You can’t hang out in low states. You don’t want things that are going to be limiting this true and free self.
So sanity comes from the Latin sanitas, and it refers to the soundness of mind generally, or to soundness, and it also refers to rationality. So we tend to think in our western culture that sanity means being rational. So over time, sanity and rationality have become really interchangeable. So in the Merriam Webster dictionary, we see the definition of sanity as the quality or state of being sane, especially soundness of health of mind.
Now, from the word go, I really propose that sanity goes beyond the rational and analytical. So let me tell you why I think this. We can separate the mind from the body and the body from the divine, but if we do that, we have a broken human being. So if anyone is experiencing themselves as broken, that’s because the unity consciousness isn’t there. And the way through it, of course, is to establish that unity consciousness again.
So we’re really like these mandalas, these beautiful mandalas, and we each are unique in our design and our expression, and at the same time, we’re part of a greater whole. So again, I’m just going to say my definition of sanity is a balanced union between the body, emotions, mind, soul, and spirit.
So sanity also arises when you take full responsibility for your life. I’ve lived and been around a lot of ashrams, and spirituality can be used as a type of escapism, and that’s not the point of spirituality. Really spirituality is to help us evolve consciously.
So when we take full responsibility for our lives, when we claim sovereignty and tend to our body and minds like the precious gifts they are, then we’re actually consciously evolving, which is what we want to be doing.
And by the way, insanity is not listed in the DSM or the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. I did part of a PhD in clinical psychology, and I really didn’t like this idea of labeling people. I’m not going to get into it. I got through two years and that was enough for me, but I did finish my master’s in spiritual psychology, which I really loved, from the University of Santa Monica spiritual psychology program.
But anyway, I just want to point out that nervous breakdown isn’t listed in the DSM either. So what’s going on here? What’s insanity? What’s a nervous breakdown? So let’s just look at it in a different way. Shaman, in all indigenous cultures around the world, understand the process of breaking from the known and entering the mystery. So they have breaks from the ego itself. So a true shaman is a walker between worlds. They’re no longer bound by an egoic sense of history or linear time. They understand that everything is in this present moment.
Now if you go to India, you can meet yogis and sages and gurus who also have traveled beyond the identity of the ego, have dropped the body mind complex as a label and resigned in the I amness, or even some of them reside in the cosmic emptiness. So it seems that union with the divine, some sort of all-knowing presence, is actually a doorway to freedom. When we quiet the body and mind, we can begin, each one of us, to tap the infinite intelligence that loves and cares for you beyond belief.
So I’m going to just pause for an ad break here, and I’ll just add if your reader like me and you want to find spiritual, not religious, but spiritual books that discuss the infinite intelligence, please visit my publishing house.
