Ever wonder how the STEM style of education can be beneficial once implemented into a child’s learning? In this episode of SuperPower Mommas, host Laura Greco and guest Dr. Aaron Smith talk about STEM education and its impact, especially to classified students. Dr. Smith is a leading STEM school director and is also the author of Blank Check: What if you were asked to reinvent public education and Awakening Your STEM School. The novel is to be released soon and is perfect for both the new and current generation as it can inspire them to provide solutions to America’s public school system. Listen in to understand what is STEM education and why it gets the interest of parents.
Hello everyone and welcome. You’re listening to SuperPower Mommas and I’m so excited to speak with you once again today. Our topic is a really interesting one and a little different than our normal shows. So I’d like to draw your attention to the title, which is STEM education. What is it and why would parents want to know? So let’s think for a minute about the education of our children or even the education that we ourselves have gone through. How did you feel about the education system that we went through? How prepared did you feel going through that and then becoming an adult in the workforce or just carrying on with everyday life? How do you feel about your children in school and what they are experiencing? Do you see areas that you really love and do you see areas where you would like to see some improvement or changes of some kind?
These are the kinds of things that STEM is really all about. It’s preparedness for life and that’s what Aaron Smith is going to speak with us about today. Dr. Aaron, he’s an actor in leading STEM cell school director. He is very heavily active in this and you will have an opportunity to hear all about him, so I’m going to read everything, but he has written a book called Awakening Your STEM School and soon he’ll have another book released, actually Blank Check, which actually encourages young people in the education area. He’s on YouTube, he’s all over the place and just one more thing about him. He’s married to his wife and he is a proud dad of kids. Actually, he has three little ones who only drive him crazy but also challenge him to reach the stars every day and I just think that’s so beautiful, so welcome Aaron to the show.
Thanks, Laura. It’s truly an honor to be here. Looking forward to talking to you.
Yeah, yeah. And you have such great stuff going on here. First though before we start, we always ask the question, what is your superpower? And so, you’re a dad, so what’s your dad superpower?
What is my superpower? I feel like when I meet people for the first time, I usually get a pretty solid impression about them. And normally I’m kind of on spot with it. So, I could work with you if you wanted to be, not a Guinea pig, but a somebody who’d be willing to try it out.
Okay.
So you come from a very hardworking background. You love your family unconditionally and you’re very dedicated to what you do. But you also believe more importantly that your mission is to serve others along the journey and nothing makes you feel more humble than seeing some of your fruits of labor take off.
Wow. Yeah, yeah. Wow. Very good.
Oh, thank you.
Thank you. Wow, that’s really powerful. Yeah, so that’s your superpower. Well, this is actually such a great superpower.
It helps. It helps. Yeah. I try to use that when I meet parents for the first time or especially children because I want them to feel like we all work together. And to me, that’s what life should be all about the period, regardless of where we are.
Yeah, that is true. That is true. And I love that. I think it’s really wonderful too for people to have the confirmation of someone really seeing them and hearing them in a way that promotes more growth and real joy in the world, right?
Mm-hmm, it does. It makes all the difference in the world. I mean, from a student’s esteem to just reinforcing somebody when they’ve had a bad day. I think humanity should be supporting one another instead of breaking each other down.
I agree.
I think we see this too many times. That’s why I’m glad you’re doing this show because you’re a light for others to see that when you do the right things, you celebrate the right things, it emulates itself and it grows
Beautiful. It is exciting to do. It’s a privilege and I’m really grateful for all our listeners out there who do tune in and are curious. It’s so fun to see the numbers of people that are interested in something more expansive than just the everyday kind of life. They’re looking for something to really expand their abilities and enhance their children’s lives as well.
Neva Lee Recla is on a mission to inspire 1 million kids to start businesses. Get the tools to inspire your young entrepreneur so they can go out and change the world. And that should be something that you work on together. Like every child’s going to have different needs, different interests, but you have to find that individual time. Whether you just go to Chick-fil-A and just get lunch and sit down and share or you’re doing homework side by side and you share with them your dreams and you listen to their dreams. And my daughters they’ll listen to me they’ll hear my bad dad jokes and we just bond from helping each other grow and to me that’s something you can never put a price tag on.
No, no. No, you can’t do that. And I know that was very important while my girls were growing up too, is the time spent. I always say that, and we know this for ourselves, right? What children really need most of all from us as parents or as adults in their life, mentoring them is that we see them, we hear them, and that we value them for who they are.
You are so on point.
Yeah. Well, we have to run for a break real quick so I’m going to ask you to share all the places that people can find you in the work you’re doing because when we come back we are going to go into the topic of the STEM cell education and what that really means and why parents would want to listen to that.
Okay.
So where can they find you?
So you can find me on my website. It is aaronsmithphd.com And when you go there you’ll see some of the topics that I try to share with families, with job seekers, with companies that really the secret to a great career is to be an autonomous learner and when you go there, you’ll see Awakening Your STEM School and that’s the book that I share with everybody no matter where your children are at schools, there’s always something that we can do together to help bump it up to the next level. Got a new book called Blank Check that’s coming out and I think that’s going to be hopefully a great awakening opportunity for discussion, for people to understand it’s time to shift education in the right way. And I also do a blog. This week’s blog is distance learning and does it actually work. So between that and Facebook, Twitter, social media, I try to stay in contact with everybody because I learned from them just like they learn from me.
Yeah. I think we found each other on LinkedIn, right?
We sure did.
That’s great. Okay everyone, so stay tuned. We will be right back with Dr. Aaron Smith on the topic of STEM education, what is it and why would you want to know.
